Happy New Year! As we close out 2023, I figured this was as good a time as any to share my big news. I hinted a few weeks ago at a major transition in my business, so here it is: I am stepping back from wedding photography. This was a slow transition over the last few years as I took less and less weddings. At the beginning of this year, my husband and I started talking about the possibility of stopping altogether and over time, it became clear that this was the best decision.
This is bittersweet in many regards, but mostly a welcome change. As our family has grown, I have felt the pull more and more to be home and to care better for my family, to be present and available, and to use my time, energy, & creativity to serve the people closest to me. This decision to put my career aside may seem backwards to the world, but it feels like the most natural way forward to me and where I am called to be right now.
These last 11 years as a wedding photographer grew me in ways I didn’t know was possible and brought opportunities I never imagined having. And I’ll say it over and over — I got to work with the best people. Couples who cared genuinely for each other, for their friends and families, and for me. Second shooters and photographer friends who gave up their own time to help out. And friends and family who were never in short supply of encouragement and support.
Going forward I will still consider taking 1-2 weddings a year. I also hope to make more room is my schedule for smaller local sessions (families, portraits, etc.) and to continue pursuing landscape, architectural, and nature photography. I will be updating my account more often so come follow along. My goal is to revamp my print shop and offer a more curated selection of printed products. And you can still plan to see some work on this account from this past year and anything I may shoot going forward.
I chose this image because 11 years ago, my goal was to shoot a wedding at Pippin Hill. And a few weeks ago, I got to celebrate the marriage of Taylor and Matt at this beautiful venue. This was a full circle moment for me. A beautiful closing. Thank you for supporting me these last 11 years. So many of the weddings I photographed still seem like dreams — brides glowing with eager anticipation in their ivory gowns and grooms with teary eyes. It really is an honor to be welcomed into those intimate moments. Thank you for choosing me.
