Ava’s VCU cap and gown session felt so her from the very beginning 🤍

She came into this shoot with so much energy, so many ideas, and a willingness to fully lean into the creative process and I honestly think that’s what made this session so special.

I really wanted to use this session to create some more artistic images and capture more than just the “grad photos.” The little in between moments, the movement, the personality, the feeling of this chapter ending and a new one beginning.

Every part of this session felt intentional and uniquely Ava, and those always end up being my favorite kinds of shoots. 🎓

Richmond Ivy behind the scenes.

Behind this shoot was a lot of intention before the camera ever came out.

For me, it’s never just about showing up and shooting. It’s about understanding how everything is going to come together ahead of time so when things shift, you’re ready for it.

Because they always do.

That’s where the real work happens. Adjusting, problem solving, and making sure the final images still feel cohesive no matter what changes.

At the end of the day, the goal is simple. Create something that feels true to the team, the city, and the moment.

Match day journal.

Some games stay with you long after the final whistle, and this was one of them.

From behind the lens, you could feel it from the very beginning — the weight of an Open Cup night, the energy in the stands, and the quiet belief that this Richmond Kickers team had something to prove against Loudoun United FC.

Every frame told part of the story: the focus in their eyes before kickoff, the battles for every ball, the moments of frustration, the refusal to let the game slip away.

As the clock wound down, the tension only grew. You start shooting faster in those moments, trying to catch every look, every reaction, every split second that might become the story of the night.

Then it happened.

A last-minute goal.

The kind of moment that erupts all at once — disbelief, joy, noise, bodies rushing together in celebration. Through my lens, it was chaos in the best possible way. The underdogs finding their moment when it mattered most.

These are the nights that remind me why I’ve spent so many seasons telling this club’s story.

Swipe through a night I won’t forget.
