Mattie channeling her inner 1990s Janet Jackson.

We got somewhat close, but didnt get the hands or the hat quite right.
Also, the lighting is a hair off, but I think that is due more to me trying to light a 36x48 double diffused sofbox with 1 TT600 speedlight. I actually was trying to see exactly what I could and could not do with a single light source.
May not have gotten the results I wanted with this one idea, but I got some more that turned out pretty nice I think!

Man what a scary looking beast!

A few more of the Carolina Mantis without the color card. Contrary to how it looks, these are done in the daylight. The combination of aperture and shutter speed make it look otherwise. If not for the flash, this image would be completely black!

Which images do you prefer? With or without the color?

How about an ultra cool Carolina Mantis on this Macro Monday!

I experimented with using a colored "macro card" on these shots. I'm actually holding a piece of plastic behind the mantis with one hand while I shot with the other. It does get a bit cumbersome as that D810/150mm Macro combo along with the flash and diffuser does get a bit heavy after a bit!
