My goal is to be a fly on the wall.

To catch the simple, everyday moments nobody thinks to save. Half eaten apples, books read upside down, cookie dough straight from the bowl. Becoming a mom made me realize these little things are the memories. Shooting on film keeps me slow and intentional about what I bring back to my clients. Every frame is chosen.

Our families have been friends for close to 9 years now. We’ve alternated having babies and have watched them grow up together. There have been lots of birthday parties, dinners, and summer nights spent together. And lots of photos taken. These ones are on film.

I've always felt like sunsets are a beautiful little gift from God. It's something I love, and one of my favorite things has been getting to share that with my kids. I always point them out when we are in the car, from the backyard, wherever we are.

When I saw this one starting to bloom, the kiddos and I hopped in the car to go catch it. I took my film camera with me, which meant no guarantees. Just a few photos and a lot of hoping. Pretty fitting for a sunset, honestly.

There's a grain to it that feels more like memory than a photograph. I don't know exactly how to explain why I love film...

There's a grain to it that feels more like memory than a photograph.

I don't know exactly how to explain why I love film, but I keep coming back to this: it looks more like how I actually remember things.

Not sharp and clean and perfectly exposed. A little soft in places, a little grainy, a little imperfect. That's closer to the truth of a moment than anything my phone can produce. At least for me.
