William Hanley Photography Shop

William Hanley Photography Shop The Facebook platform for my photography shop at https://williamhanley.smugmug.com . Born in Seattle, William Hanley currently resides in Richland, WA.

Prior to his recent move across country from North Carolina, he worked as an Electronic Resources Management Specialist for Duke University Libraries for over 15 years. He now is a professional nature photographer who emphasizes connections between positive mental health, nature, and art. As someone who has battled depression off and on for many years, he learned that his meditative, contemplative

approach to photographing nature helped to lessen sadness and promote peace within himself. He hopes that in observing his photos, the viewer may experience much of the same blessings of calm and awe that he feels during his nature walks. To date, he has been featured in one photography exhibit in Richland, six at Duke University and one in the Durham County Library System. His work has been published in multiple issues of "eno Magazine" (the premier arts and literature magazine for the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University, https://sites.duke.edu/enomag/past-issues/). When it comes to photography, "See Nature as Art" is his motto. When not on nature/photo walks, William loves watching Studio Ghibli movies, Bob Ross painting videos, and Seattle sports teams (especially Seahawks football). He also loves playing video game RPGs, and reading various manga series. PHOTO EXHIBIT EXPERIENCE

A throwback from a few years ago at WSU Tri-Cities. I initially took this photo in color. But I later changed it to black and white to give it a more artistic quality.

From the Earth to the Moon.

I took this photo at WSU Tri-Cities () about a month ago. I saw the moon past a tree in bloom (hence the blur in the foreground). I think it was a cherry blossom tree.

I took this photo a few weeks ago at WSU Tri-Cities' Consolidated Information Center.

One of my sayings (though I don't know if I coined this phrase) is "Everything communicates. It's just a matter of knowing the language."

The Earth, communities with us in many ways, just not in human language. It speaks in pressures and temperatures, droughts and floods, life and death. Physics. It has information and wisdom to give us if we listen.

When I took this photo, I was struck by how the word "Information" melded into the abstract form of a dogwood tree and it's shadow. I think it is a good metaphor. Listen to the Earth, even if it's language is abstract to us.
