1957 Dodge D100 Sweptside Pickup

Dodge answered Chevrolet's Cameo Carrier in May 1957 with the D100 Sweptside Pickup, a truck that featured pronounced tail fins and wagon-inspired styling. Dodge integrated rear quarter panels and bumpers from a two-door Dodge station wagon into a modified pickup bed, requiring the cargo box and tailgate to be narrowed to fit the new fenders.

Built by Dodge’s Special Equipment Group, each Sweptside was partially hand-assembled and featured wood-slat cargo beds, two-tone paint, full wheel covers, and whitewall tires.

The bold design reflected Virgil Exner’s "Forward Look," a theme that defined Dodge’s 1957 lineup. Distinctive hooded headlights contributed to the truck’s aggressive front-end styling.

Buyers could select either a 230 cubic inch flathead inline-six rated at 120 horsepower or a 315 cubic inch V-8 with 204 horsepower. The V-8 was available with a three-speed push-button automatic transmission.

Production of the Sweptside lasted only from May 1957 through January 1959, with total production estimated at fewer than 1,300 units across all years, making it one of the rarest American trucks of the era.
