Just sent off this family's session! It was a fantastic fun-filled session with EIGHT little ones! See below for some TIPS FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS: How to work with kids in family photos!
👉Introduce yourself to the kids and ask them their names as soon as possible! Some kids are shy and if a stranger is suddenly asking them to smile and taking their picture, scowls can come out pretty quick. It happens all the time. So if you take a few moments to tell them your name, explain that you'll be taking some pictures, and ask them their name, how old they are, and maybe their favorite ice cream flavor then boom! You'll have a new friend and they'll be more likely to smile and have fun with you.
👉Pause between pictures to give big smiles to the kids! Most kids will social smile at just a few months old, so they'll be more likely to smile back if they can see your face for a few seconds!
👉GIVE THEIR FACES A BREAK! I like to ask kids to do grumpy faces or serious faces in between smiling pictures.
👉A classic but a goodie: Count to 3! Let them get their wiggles out, and then explain that you're going to count to 3 and on 3, give you their biggest smile! This helps with the last one - they can't hold a smile for very long!
