WHAT AN EPIC EVENT!! This is going to be such a blessing for the community, shelters and the opportunity for healthier/safer community cats! I am so excited to be apart of this.

A LITTLE BIT OF GOOD NEWS!

Due to the high volume of adoptions during COVID, it is very difficult to get in to see your vets. Providing vet care for community cats has been nearly impossible for hard-working rescuers in Northern Virginia. All slots for this clinic are booked and there will not be walk-ins allowed.

This weekend 50 vets, vet techs and volunteers will be coming together to sterilize, immunize and treat up to 200 un-owned cats. This will have a direct impact on the number of kittens that will flood our shelters in the future.

It is $50 to sponsor a community and you will be personally thanked from the event if you wish to contribute and help us, help them! Please consider a donation at any level.

Keep an eye on Facebook leading up to the event and during for updates and access to see us all come together for these community cats. You can donate on their website at: http://www.chase-alliance.org/donate.html

"Dear Diary,

Marco's the name, don't wear it out! I just wanted to pop in for my first diary post to say that I am large and in charge around here! I came to MHF near the beginning of August and I have settled in like the king that I am. I'm good with other cats and dogs and would prefer an indoor/outdoor home. I think that I'm going to be the perfect addition to your home! Come and check me out this week!

Marco"

"Dear Diary,

I have a secret: I have made it my goal to play with EVERY toy that MHF has before I'm adopted. I know that the shelter is trying to collect more cat toys during their 'For Your A-MEOWS-ment' Toy Drive running through the end of October. Don't you want to find the most unique cat toys and bring them to me? It would just make my day!

'Til next time,
Felix"

With many FIV+ cats currently available for adoption at MHF, our Animal Care team wanted to give some quick facts about FIV!

1. FIV cats can live perfectly happy, healthy lives with the proper care.

2. Many cats with feline AIDS never develop symptoms and can live normal life spans.

3. Caring for FIV cats isn't much different from caring for any other cat.

Here's what you need to know:
Feline immunodeficiency virus, or FIV, is not contagious to humans or other species. Though it's contagious from cat to cat, it's difficult to spread. Transmission usually requires a deep bite wound, and it cannot be passed by litter boxes, water or food bowls, or by casual contact.

We hope that this has helped you to understand FIV+ cats more and if you are interested in adopting an FIV+ cat, please fill out an adoption questionnaire online at www.middleburghumane.com/adopt. If you have questions about the adoption process, please call the shelter at 540-364-3272.
