The best ages for toddler sessions - and why
Ten years behind the lens taught me there are certain ages that just work better. Here’s the breakdown:
18 months to 2 years: The sweet spot. They’re walking, exploring, and their personalities are starting to explode. Not camera-aware yet, which means pure, natural magic. Still cuddly but independent enough to interact - perfection.
2 to 3 years: Activate “Peak Toddler Chaos” (in the best way). They’re talking, running, laughing at everything. This age is SO expressive and real. These sessions always deliver my favorite photos because they’re just so THEM.
3 to 4 years: More coordinated, less wobbly. But they’re also starting to notice the camera—some ham it up, some get shy. Hit or miss, but when it works? Beautiful. Requires a little more patience from Auntie Tiff and I have plenty of it.
4+ Fully camera-aware. Either they love it or they don’t. That is when bribery comes in to play and I always have a few tricks up my sleeve ;) It takes creativity to get those candid moments but I have had practice…
If your toddler is between 18 months and 3 years, NOW is the time. This window closes fast 💕
