To live among the rocks. To climb into the alpine. To descend into the deep, dark places where an old ram may lurk and then turn back around. To walk the high country with a bow in hand. To watch the storms come and go.

This is sheep hunting.

We must load the packs. We must lace the boots. We must go.

And when we go, remember to do it with a smile. Because the past you longed to be here. And, one day, the future you will wish you were back here.

We’ve noticed a few Bow Racks out in the wild using the headrest strap to secure the bow.

It seems intuitive, but that’s actually not what it’s for.
The headrest strap is load-bearing. Its job is to support the Bow Rack itself.

Secure your bow using the built-in retention points, and let the headrest strap do the heavy lifting.
It’s a small detail, but it makes a big difference.

If you’re just getting your Bow Rack set up, our full installation guide is available on our website at the bottom of the product landing page.

Questions? Drop them below. If we keep seeing common setup questions, we’ll keep making quick tips like this.

I’m not always doing the photo thing from a truck base camp, but when I do I find it best to cram it full of gear.

Thanks to all these great gear makers, it’s easier to be out there than it ever has been. Hopefully it doesn’t make us too soft!

NORTH OF EVERYTHING //

Some places don’t let go of you. Some places always have that pull. You leave thinking you’re heading home, but before you even get on that plane and sit next to that guy who has no idea where you’ve just been, you’re already wondering if you’ll be lucky enough to find your way back here.

Come for the archery. Stay for the mems.

Total Archery Challenge gathers so many archers and the fun of shooting the course is only rivaled by the evening hang time with great people.

Happy Father’s Day to all the rad dads out there ♥️🏹

Legend has it, Cam and I got our first exposure to archery riding around in a backpack while our dad shot his bow, so I suppose it’s fitting to have our little guy reading out false ranges and cheering us on in a similar manner.

You’re not even an ultralight hunter if you’ve never…

☑ Cut your butt pad in half

☑ Cut your toothbrush in half

☑ Trimmed excess webbing off your backpack

☑ Repackaged all your food to save weight and bulk

☑ Cut the tags off your gear

☑ Shortened your boot laces

☑ Burned your soiled pair of socks for the pack out

☑ Used your titanium pot for coffee, oatmeal, and laundry

***Plus, with all that weight savings, you can still afford to pack extra toques and gloves for the buddies who forgot we were hunting sheep in the Rocky Mountains.

My hands were getting a little sweaty anyways.

🎥: Sam Averett who’s butt pad previously blew off the mountain leaving me no choice but to give him half of mine.

Why would a ram choose to bed here?

Because this is premium sheep real estate.

You can tell these beds weren’t dug overnight. Some of them have likely been used year after year, with generations of sheep adding to them over time.

This is that really black shale in the NWT, high on the mountain where there’s usually enough breeze to keep the bugs down and enough visibility to see trouble coming.

But what most people don’t realize is just how comfortable this stuff actually is.

When you dig into it, the shale turns into a fine powder. Cool, dry, and soft.

The sheep absolutely love it.

In this case, a band of 14 rams had claimed the entire hillside and they weren’t headed anywhere any time soon. And honestly, who could blame them?

No matter the season. No matter the location. No matter the mission. The mountains always motivate.

If you’re lucky enough to have heard a sheep hunting tale from a guy who’s taken close to 170 sheep the hard way, uses a Tackla hockey strap as a gun sling, and rides an exercise bike like a man possessed every winter to stay ready for sheep season — and it sure as s**t isn’t a — consider yourself lucky.

If you’ve shared a mountain with him, luckier still. At almost 70 years old, he might just be entering his prime.

Long live the legend, .
