The Blue Jay is known for its intelligence and complex social systems with tight family bonds. It can mimic Hawks (especially the Red shouldered) and it has caught me a few times thinking that it was a hawk. Its blue color (it is actually brown) is caused by scattering light through modified cells on the surface of the feather barbs. Taken in my backyard in Brantley County, Ga.

I was finally able to make it to the Satilla River and Herrin Landing this morning. Right now a tree is completely across the river just down from the boat ramp. A chain saw will be needed to go down river. Not sure about what is upriver right now.. Brantley County, Ga.

Today, our daughter Kristen turned 37. What a blessing she is to our family! We couldn't ask for a more precious gift from God. I enjoy watching videos and/or listening to older country music and many of my past family members were really good at playing and singing. (I am not one of them). I watched a video this morning of Merle Haggard and Johnny Paycheck singing "Old Violin" and I had never paid that much attention to the words, until now. It really is a hard hitting, emotional song. I took this picture of my grand daddy's fiddle/violin and hat that I still have of his. Brantley County, Ga.
