One of my favorite places near home, Syvlan Lake. This was one of those moments where I knew the sky was about to explode and as it did I took the drone up for a unique composition that I would not have been able to get otherwise.

For the first time maybe ever I decided to opt for going to a scenic area, in this case Badlands NP, instead of chasing where I knew the better storms would be and getting the same shot over an empty field everyone else would. We may not have had the best structure, but and I were able to watch this updraft over the reservation spit nonstop lightning in the distance. This was a composite of a few different frames of lightning. .

This is a shot from a popular spot in Rocky Mountain National Park during a trip Jesse Brown Nelson Photography and I were on. Due to a lack of Fall colors we changed our game plan and checked out this spot instead. During the day I wasn't even motivated to shoot an image here since the conditions were not great, but during blue hour into the night it completely changed.

Generally when I think waterfalls I think the Pacific Northwest. It is a destination for some of the most beautiful forests and waterfalls in the country. While East coast I found a similar beauty, albeit with much more people in the area. I was able to find a few places that were relatively quiet and in less traveled areas that allowed me to capture a few places that I don't see as often.

On the way back from an East coast trip with my Dad we made a pitstop in Chicago to check out the skyline that I had never seen before. After a little flying a line of storms quickly came in. I managed to grab this shot with the drone just as the boundary ahead of the storm started pushing it around.

"Rise to the Occasion"
This last weekend I went camping at Deerfield Lake and had no intention of taking any photos, but I've learned better than to not bring camera gear. After getting our tent set up I looked through the trees to a beautifully lit sky that was in no way close enough to access for a photo. The next best solution? Take the drone up over the lake before the color faded.

With how wet it has been this year the Badlands are covered in yellow clovers. I headed there for this reason and was sure I would take a shot to incorporate these into a shot but instead found myself drawn to a simple shot with nice light. Going with the flow and adapting is far too common as a landscape photographer.
