The Burlington Northern Railroad was the product of a March 2nd, 1970, merger of four major railroads, the Great Northern Railway, Northern Pacific Railway, Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway and the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad. In this series, we feature the films of Fred Crissey, who traveled to many areas along the BN’s route in the central United States in the late 1970’s and 1980’s with his 8-millimeter movie film camera.

This program from C. Vision Productions features trains led with the endangered GE standard cab locomotives built between 1987 and 1995. We captured many of these aging units that were leading trains in the years 2012 to 2017. This video looks at the C40-8’s from the CSX. CSX Retired these locomotives in 2016.

A pair of CSX C40-8’s are showing their age as they pull a freight from Minneapolis’ Northtown Yard to LaCrosse, Wisconsin.  The train is passing the famed Dayton’s Bluff in St. Paul, Minnesota. This is a part of our latest YouTube video featuring these now extinct locomotives on the CSX.

Only the lead IC SD70 is powering CN train L506 up Shoreham Hill in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The engineer has the train in Notch 7 as CN’s fuel saving policy prevents crews from using full throttle.

This video showcases Illinois Central’s standard cab SD70 locomotives still in use in 2026. A pair of these 70's came in on CN’s transfer to the Twin Cities in Minnesota on April 20th, 2026. But before we get to that train, we went into our archives to show you when this train came to the Twin Cities with a trio of 70’s in April of 2012. Also included are a couple other trains that were led with IC SD70’s.

This portion of the Wisconsin and Southern includes the Mayville, Cambria, Markesan and Plymouth Subdivisions.
Motive power includes many of the WSOR’s MP15’s, GP38-2’s and SD40-2’s. Most of which are painted in their attractive red and silver paint scheme. Also included are recently acquired units from the BNSF and Nationals de Mexico.

This portion of the Wisconsin and Southern includes the Milwaukee and Oshkosh Subdivisions. Motive power includes many of the WSOR’s MP15’s, GP38-2’s and SD40-2’s. Most of which are painted in their attractive red and silver paint scheme. Also included are recently acquired units from the BNSF and Nationals de Mexico. We even catch an inspection train with the WSOR’s elite E9’s! In this show, we feature Canadian Pacific Hudson number 2816. The first part of the video shows the train as it takes a photographers special on the C.P.’s Withrow and Dresser Subdivisions in the summer of 2007. The video starts at Cardigan Junction in Shoreview, Minnesota and concludes with views from the business car as it comes back to Shoreham Yard in Minneapolis. C. Vision cameras don’t stop there. We follow the 2816 on a journey over the C.P.’s Paynesville Sub as the Hudson heads for home to Calgary. We catch many runby’s from Shoreham Yard to Glenwood.
