šŸ¤Ž Sam + Dom | Custer State Park šŸ¤Ž

Sometimes the most beautiful photo sessions are the ones that were never really planned.

I had the pleasure of meeting Sam and Dom this spring when I stayed at the Bavarian Inn during one of my trips to Custer. They were both working there for the summer, and from the very beginning, they were incredibly kind to me.

So when I returned to Custer a couple of weeks ago, Dom was so excited to see me again—and asked if I would take some photos of the two of them before they headed back home to Lithuania for school.

Of course I said YES! ā¤ļø

Sam and Dom met three years ago while going to school in Lithuania, where Dom is from, and you don’t have to spend very long with them to see how sweet they are together.

They had originally hoped to make it out to the Badlands for photos, but between work schedules and their limited time before leaving, we decided to wander through Custer State Park instead and see what beautiful little spots we could find along the Wildlife Loop.

Turns out, the scenery really didn’t matter.

These two completely stole the show. 🄰

We found rocky hillsides, wide-open Black Hills views, wildflowers and some absolutely gorgeous places to stop along the way. But my favorite part was watching the two of them together—the little looks, the laughter, the way they naturally reached for each other’s hands, and all those quiet moments in between.

And seriously… CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE COWBOY HATS AND BOOTS?! šŸ¤ šŸ¤Ž

They couldn’t have looked more perfect against the rugged South Dakota landscape if we’d planned their outfits ourselves.

Sam and Dom, I’m so glad our paths crossed this spring—and even happier that they crossed again before you headed home. I hope someday when you look at these photographs, they bring you right back to your summer together in Custer and this little adventure through the Black Hills. ā¤ļø

Safe travels back to Lithuania, you two. Thank you for letting me capture a little piece of your story.

Some evenings just come together perfectly… and this was one of them. ā¤ļø

The Mississippi River gave us the most beautiful golden summer light, the breeze was just right, and Emmy showed up with the biggest smile, ready for an evening celebrating such an exciting season of life.

Of course, we had to start with one of the most important members of the family… Apollo! šŸ¶šŸ’— Looking quite handsome in his little bow tie, he soaked up all the attention before heading home after his close-up.

One of my favorite parts of this session wasn’t just the gorgeous scenery—it was getting to spend time with Emmy and her family. We laughed, shared stories, and even captured some incredibly meaningful moments with her sister, who gave Emmy the nickname she’s known by. Those photos of them walking hand in hand along the river are ones I know they’ll treasure for years.

As the sun dipped lower, we finished the evening with a few quiet portraits of Emmy silhouetted against the sunset… the perfect ending to an unforgettable night.

These are the moments I love most. Beautiful portraits are wonderful, but it’s the relationships, the stories, and the little moments in between that make a session truly special.

Congratulations, Emmy! I can’t wait to see where your next adventure takes you. ā¤ļøšŸŽ“I hope you fall in love with your sneak peek as much as I have! I didn't stop smiling the whole time I edited them.🄰

One of the greatest gifts that wildlife has given me this summer wasn't just the incredible animals I've been fortunate enough to photograph...

It was an unexpected friendship.

Earlier this summer, while searching for the cygnets at Grass Lake in Ramsey, I met Lorina and her sweet little companion, Clover, out on the dock. We quickly discovered we shared a love for nature, peaceful moments, and the excitement of never knowing what might appear next.

Lorina mentioned she had seen an otter and her babies on the lake. It wasn't something I had been looking for or expecting... but because of her, I found not only the otter family, but a wonderful new friend as well.

Throughout the summer, we'd find ourselves meeting by chance on the dock, watching for the otter momma as she floated on her back enjoying bullheads for dinner, laughing when she'd suddenly pop up nearby as if to say hello. We watched sandhill cranes glide in, an osprey dive for goldfish (yes... goldfish! šŸ˜„), and later spent countless evenings enjoying the swans and their fluffy little cygnets.

And then there was Clover...

Always faithfully by Lorina's side. Though he couldn't hear, he never missed a thing. He kept a close eye on the painted turtles floating in the lily pads, greeted every person who walked down the path as though they had come just to visit him, and never failed to give me the happiest welcome. Whether he was standing up to say hello or hopping onto the bench beside me, he always made me smile.

It's funny how life works sometimes. I went looking for wildlife... and instead found both wildlife and a friendship I'll always treasure.

Lorina is now leaving to care for someone else in need, which is so fitting because that's simply who she is—someone with a kind heart, endless compassion, and a genuine desire to help others. She will be greatly missed.

Every time I walk out to the end of that dock at Grass Lake, I'll think of Lorina and Clover, and I'll smile knowing that some of the very best memories aren't just made by the wildlife we encounter... they're made by the people we meet along the way.

Thank you, my friend. ā¤ļø

WHY NOW?
šŸ‚ Fall is one of the most popular times for senior portraits—and for good reason.

Your Session Should Look Like YOU!

There isn't a "one-size-fits-all" senior session.
Your senior photos should tell your story.

Love football? Let's head to the field.
Love flowers? We'll chase the summer blooms.
Love the river? I know some beautiful hidden spots.
Bring your dog.
Bring your guitar.
Bring your truck.
Bring your favorite pair of cowboy boots.

The best senior sessions happen when they feel like you.

That's why we spend time planning your session together before we ever pick up the camera.

šŸŽ“ The Class of 2027 is here...and I couldn't be more excited!

Senior year only happens once, and your photos should be just as unique as you are.
Whether you're dreaming of wildflowers, the Mississippi River, downtown Anoka, open fields, city vibes, sports, cars, music, or bringing your furry best friend along, we'll create a session that tells your story.

My goal isn't just beautiful photos—it's capturing this incredible season of life before it becomes a memory.

If you're a Class of 2027 senior (or the parent of one), now is the perfect time to start planning your session!

šŸ“… Fall colors fill up quickly, so don't wait too long to reserve your date.

šŸŽ“ Something New is Here… ā¤ļø

For the past several weeks, I’ve been quietly working on something that I’ve wanted to create for a long time.

Not just new senior packages…

Not just a new brochure…

But an entirely new Senior Experience.

Because I don’t want your senior session to feel like checking another thing off your graduation checklist.

I want it to feel like one of the best memories of your senior year.

From the moment you inquire, you’ll receive my brand-new Senior Experience Guide, designed to help you every step of the way. From choosing the perfect collection and planning your dream session to outfit ideas, favorite locations, frequently asked questions, and even celebrating graduation with our new Cap & Gown Celebration Minis…everything has been thoughtfully created to make this experience easy, exciting, and uniquely YOU.

Every senior has a different story.

Maybe it’s Friday night football.

Maybe it’s ballet, band, horses, books, fishing, hunting, coffee shops, sunsets, the river, your first car, or simply the place that feels like home.

Your session should reflect your story, not someone else’s.

Because years from now, I don’t want you to just remember what you looked like…

I want you to remember exactly who you were during one of the most exciting seasons of your life.

✨ Senior Sessions for the Class of 2027 are now booking!

If you’d like to receive my new Senior Experience Guide, send me a message or comment ā€œSENIORā€ below, and I’ll send it your way!

I truly can’t wait to tell your story. ā¤ļø

Well...the wait is finally over. šŸ’™

Baby Emerson has arrived, and this sweet family is officially a family of four!

Just a few weeks ago, Jenna and Carson were dreaming about meeting their little boy during their watermelon picnic maternity session. Now, he's here, filling their home with tiny yawns, little stretches, sweet baby toes, and all the snuggles they've been waiting for.

And then there's Avrin...

He's already proving to be the sweetest big brother. He checks on Emerson, lays beside him, shares his favorite teddy bear, and sneaks in the sweetest little moments. Although...I'm not entirely convinced he's 100% on board with sharing Mom and Carson's lap just yet. šŸ˜‰ I think he's still deciding whether this whole "little brother" thing is permanent!

Watching a family grow is one of my favorite parts of what I get to do. Every new baby changes a family in the most beautiful way, and being invited into these first days at home is such an honor.

These aren't just newborn photos—they're the beginning of a brand-new chapter that they'll look back on for years to come.

Welcome to the world, sweet Emerson. You are already so very loved. ā¤ļø

I can't wait to share the next chapter in your story little one!ā¤ļø

A beautiful summer afternoon, the sweetest little family, and the most perfect backyard setting. ✨

Bailey and David’s photo shoot with their little cutie Avery was everything you could hope for — warm, relaxed, playful, and full of so much love. Their beautiful backyard made the perfect backdrop, and Uncle Tyler, Grandma, and their pups, Mango and Marvel, joined in for some extra special memories too.

Bailey had the sweetest vision for photos of Avery all dressed up in her wedding dress beside their adorable wicker egg chair… and oh my goodness, it could not have been more perfect. Avery looked like a little dream, and every detail came together so beautifully. Even when she wasn't 100% on board, playing with some bubbles took her mind off it and brought a smile back to her face.

And while Avery wasn’t looking, we even managed to sneak in a few romantic photos of Bailey and David too. Because Mom and Dad deserve their moment in front of the camera once in a while. šŸ¤

Senior year only happens once, and Lilly made sure to celebrate it in style! ✨

This gorgeous summer senior session was everything she dreamed of and more. From the sparkling waters of the Mississippi River to the wildflower-filled fields along the shoreline, every location was a perfect reflection of the things she loves most.

šŸ‘‰Don't stop at just a couple photos...check out all the amazing looks she got in one amazing location! šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

Lilly absolutely stunned in every outfit she chose. Each look complemented the natural beauty around her so perfectly, and she brought confidence, grace, and a beautiful smile to every moment. The golden summer light, colorful blooms, and river views created the perfect backdrop for a senior session we'll never forget.

Congratulations on your senior year, Lilly! Your future is as bright and beautiful as this amazing summer evening. šŸ’•
