Excuse me? I stopped breathing. 😭💓

The sunlight caught my eye, mid-conversation as we were traversing through the park. I asked Emily and Caed if they’d feel comfortable cozying up along the trail side. To my delight, they agreed! We waited as families passed behind us, sharing congratulatory sentiments. Then with patience, it was time.

This was the first shot.

While editing, my jaw dropped.
We did it.
It’s done.

This is love.

[Stranger Things]
You all are playing if this show isn’t about anything other than fun, bonding, facing monsters, overcoming overwhelming fear, and growing up. I cried in the theater.

This show spanned 10 years of my life, too. Having just celebrated a 10-year high school reunion and, by happenstance, beginning a monthly Curse of Strahd campaign with my new friends, the finale felt surreal.

I also just began teaching film to middle schoolers, and for four months they have been begging me to host their DnD club. I had a seventh grader say to me, “Thank you.”

The moment Mike turns around to look down the steps at Holly and her friends, after he and the gang all place their character books on the shelf — the same shelf Max pushed through to get to her final memory — is the peak of the entire series. Starting something new, with different people, overcoming original identities, forgiveness, and embracing the adventure despite limitations.

I’ve witnessed the same fear and whimsy of childhood; the adventure in it of itself was always more than just plot holes, but the relationships and make-believe.

This day, the weather, the details, were straight out of a fairytale. They graciously invited me into learning about their faith and families throughout this honorary process.

It’s not a hot take.

I’ve been a photographer for over a decade. My enjoyment of sharing my work has been drained, and I feel so much anxiety logging on to be a part of what once was an amazing community.

Frankly, I don’t care about the algorithm, the strategy, the manipulation, or the trending whatever. I shouldn’t feel compelled to move over to the digital world; I should embrace my love for art and storytelling.

2026 is on the horizon, and I want to leave this app and these mentalities behind. I don’t want to record myself with my camera, in a semi-average stylish outfit, kicking my heels to the pace of a smile pointed at my shoulder just to maybe *be something.* Screw that and the irreplaceable loss of time to a screen.

Here’s to leaving social media management and futile content creation in the past. ✌️ I hate reels.
