HAPPY WEDDING DAY to Ellie & Andrew!!! Their engagement session went so flawlessly that I already know I’m going to have the hardest time narrowing down their wedding photos. Cannot wait to see this sweet couple today!

A break in my social media hiatus to A) let you know I’m still alive, and B) give a life update!
Many of you know that our oldest daughter, Everley, is high functioning on the spectrum! Our little wild child is headed into kindergarten soon, but girlfriend needs just a little more love in the self-regulation department, so she’s going to be starting an intensive therapy this year that is going to be about 40 hours a week. I started this business as a means to be able to work AND be a stay at home mom, and it has allowed me to do just that- I will be FOREVER grateful for each and every one of you that has support that over the last 6 years.
With Everley starting her new full time job, and Isla being Isla (IYKYK), we’ve decided in this season of life that it’s best for me to pull back on work a little bit so I can give the best of myself to our families needs, but also so I can serve each of YOU with more time and attention without being spread too thin.
All of that being said, for the time being, I will only be taking wedding related photography work. This means engagement sessions, proposals, bridal portraits and obviously weddings of all kinds!
I didn’t realize I was a people pleaser until I started realizing how DEEPLY difficult it has been to turn down family/other types of sessions 😭 so please know that it crushes my soul to have to say no, and it won’t be forever 😘 if you already have a session on the books or if you’re a “baby’s first year” package client, all of those sessions are still good to go! This applies strictly to new bookings.
Thank you so much for all the love and understanding during this chaotic, but beautiful time of our lives! I look forward to serving each of my wedding clients with undivided attention, and I have some fun plans for how I’ll serve families when I’m able to come back to that🤩 LOVE YOU GUYS 🫶🏻🫶🏻

Shew. I found out this week that being a small business owner is actually one of the most difficult, stressful jobs you could have. You can lose a parent and feel like your whole world needs to stop, but it just can’t because you’re a one man show and time keeps moving, even if it has to drag you along. I’ve seen this happen to other photographers and their clients were entirely unforgiving and showed no grace, because at the end of the day, it is still a business transaction. This has not been my people. Those are not my clients. The outpouring of messages and texts was honestly a little overwhelming in the best way. It wasn’t the response I anticipated. MY people, each of you, gave unrelenting grace and support. If you’re waiting for your photos, thank you, thank you, thank you… for remembering that I’m still human and just a one man show. Your unwavering patience in a time of tragedy has made my world start to revolve again. Love you people 🫶🏻

Ashley + Hal 🫶🏻 I was having a conversation earlier this week with someone dear to me about how you learn a lot in this industry about people and the chemistry they have with their partners. When it’s your job to observe people in their most vulnerable state, in front of a camera, you become very intimately acquainted with the habits and subconscious interactions that people have with the person they love. One of my favorite times to study chemistry between partners is at receptions when people are on the dance floor. I have a firm belief that couples that dance together are some of the happiest couples I witness. It’s a common theme that I’ve noticed over the years, that their chemistry is unmatched. The first time I met Ashley and Hal was at a wedding and I’d already been hired to be their photographer, so I was happy to see that their dance floor energy was exactly the kind of connection that I love to see in my couples. Cheers to these two- I can’t wait to celebrate you this year 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

I don’t share a ton of family work these days due to my focus on weddings in this phase of life, but my baby turns three years old today and I’m feeling a little emotional about the rate that my girls are growing and I also teared up multiple times during this session with Dmitri and Nicole. This session and this family are the perfect example of why you should show up to your family session with no expectations other than using it as time to connect with your children. Very little of this session was prompted. We were all just together, enjoying quiet moments of connection with their beautiful girls. There’s no “look at the camera and smile” (nothing wrong with that! But sometimes kids don’t want to do that- so we don’t), no Pinterest expectations. They show up to every session having the faith in me that I will find the beauty in the ordinary and the leave with the most organically beautiful photos every time because of it. The moral of the story here is that if I’m documenting your family, I’m asking you to show up with a calm, regulated presence for your littles and trust that I’ll extract the most beautiful moments that you might not see yourself, from the inside. Let your child lead. Get into their world. I can promise you, you won’t regret it.

Fall is always a busy time for a photographer, particularly a wedding photographer. This has been a quiet fall for me and this is the first fall weekend in over 5 years where I didn’t have a single thing on my calendar. I was supposed to be shooting a wedding in WNC, which was sadly moved, creating a last minute opening in my calendar. I could have filled it. I could have packed this weekend full, but I chose not to. It’s the first time in a long time that I’ve chosen to rest over working, and I’d be lying if I told you it wasn’t uncomfortable for me. Additionally, I’ve been saying “it still doesn’t feel like fall” and the inner peace I get each fall hasn’t kicked in yet, until I woke up this morning to a cold, gray day, a day where I have nothing scheduled and have actually committed to resting. Here’s to hoping I can actually give my brain and my body the rest it deserves today😅 🍁 🍂
