Sunday afternoon at Shelley Lake with two very different cameras, and one big lesson. ☀️

On one shoulder is this beautifully refurbished Canon AE-1 with a 50mm f/1.8. It got fresh brown leatherette, and I’m running a test roll through it before it goes up for sale. Every camera we sell gets shot first, so you know it works before it reaches your hands.

In my other hand is a little Bell & Howell point-and-shoot. Focus-free, 28mm, nothing fancy.

So why bring both? Because today is about light. ✨

With clear skies, soft clouds, and the sun sitting low over the water, even an inexpensive camera can make a beautiful picture. Gear helps, but light does most of the work. Learn to see it, and every camera you pick up gets better.

Keep an eye out, because these beauties are going up for sale soon. 👀 The scans from this roll will be posted so you can see exactly what each camera can do.

Which one would you grab: the classic SLR or the grab-and-go point-and-shoot? Tell me below 👇

Swipe to see what a day looks like at The FotoShoppe: holding film up to the light like it’s treasure (because it is), scanning film to upload and rolling up enough negatives to wrap a Christmas tree.

Every roll is developed right here in our Raleigh lab, handled with gloves and a whole lot of love. 🧤❤️

N THE NEWS 📰 | Is your archive really protected? A PBS station recently lost access to decades of archival material after its cloud storage provider went out of business.

It’s an important reminder: **digitizing is only the first step.** Multiple backups and secure storage are essential for protecting photos, videos, and history for the future.
