My daughter Caitlin has been shadowing me at weddings lately. She loves photography, but honestly, she mostly wants to spend more time with me. So every now and then, she joins me with a camera in hand, learning and hanging out with her dad.

On the wedding day, I informed her to shoot things I am not. To trust her instincts, to confidently see, anticipate, and take risks. But the person who gave her confidence on this wonderful day wasn’t me. It was Justin, the groom. At one point, he told her, “I know he’s going to take good pictures, but I think I’m going to love yours more.” Caitlin lit up. I laughed and said, “She does get me sometimes.”

Well… this was one of those times. Caitlin created this photo. She saw Molly's free-spirited personality and used the light, the reflections, and nature to mirror her. What a beautiful image.

When I sent it to Molly, her reply was simple: “I’m obsessed with this photo! It’s amazing! Way to go Caitlin!”

But what stayed with me most wasn’t just the image.

It was the kindness of Justin and Molly that made all the difference. They encouraged her, trusted her, and gave a kid the space to have a voice and a vision. Only truly good people do that.

Photographs reflect more than a moment. It reflects the energy and vibrations of the people. Thank you, Molly & Justin, for being exactly who you are.

Justin rides off with Molly during their motorcycle send-off at The Barn at Valhalla. If you’ve photographed weddings long enough, you learn that the final moments of the night rarely go exactly as planned, and sometimes that’s exactly what makes them unforgettable.

The night was wrapping up, and it became clear that they were leaving on Justin’s Harley. We had no practice run, just a pitch-black space, trust in the photographer, and a crowd of friends losing their minds behind them. The bike starts moving. And you know you might only get three… maybe five frames before the moment is gone forever. Knowing once the moment starts, there’s no redo.

That’s the part people don’t always see. The pressure of being the person responsible for preserving the moment exactly as it happened. The photographer becomes the record keeper for a memory that can’t be recreated. But honestly? I don’t really feel the pressure.

After years of weddings, you trust your instincts, your light, and thought process. Justin and Molly’s exit was loud and absolutely perfect. Exactly how a wedding night should end!

First looks are filled with that quiet, electric nervous energy. The kind that belongs only to the two of them. Our role in moments like this is simple, protect the space.

A long lens compresses the distance, allowing me to stay back while bringing them closer within the frame. A wide lens tells the other side of the story, showing the environment, the space around them. Together, those perspectives create intimacy without intrusion. You feel close… while they still feel alone.

The beauty of this collection is that it unfolds organically. Yes, I guided Nathan where to stand. After that? It was theirs. The choice to respect the moment was mine.

We believe in letting a wedding day breathe. No forcing frames. No over-directing. Just finding the beauty that’s already there.
