Christ centered families are happy families. đź’›

“Following Christ for my family has meant utilizing our gifts to impact each other's life, our neighborhood, the community and our industries through serving. We've been greatly impacted by the word of God to not only think materialistically but also historically, meaning thinking about how our choices and actions will influence history: those coming after us and how they do life.

Being a Christian is our life's strategy.”

I've moved to Wilson, NC! Got to photograph this family surrounded by the beautiful folk artwork that is Whirligig Park and I've got to say I keep falling more in love with NC with every family I meet and place I travel to đź’• North Carolina has my heart! So so grateful that the Lord called me to this beautiful place.

To all the mothers out there:

"You are doing God's work. You are doing it wonderfully well. He is blessing you, and he will bless you, even- no, especially- when your days and your nights may be most challenging. Like the woman who anonymously, meekly, perhaps even with hesitation and some embarrassment, fought her way through the crowd just to touch the hem of the Master's garment, so Christ will say to the women who worry and wonder and weep over their responsibility as mothers, 'Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole.' And it will make your children whole as well."

I loved how JOYFUL this shoot was. This is what family is all about! And it got me thinking about joy. Like true, lasting joy and where it comes from. Of course my thoughts turned to Christ. He spoke these words to his disciples:

"If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.

These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you."

Christ walked the earth, suffered unimaginable pain, died for us, took up life again, all so that we might have joy! Again, that's what life is all about! "Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have JOY." And when we love those around us- our family, friends, neighbors- we get a taste of Christ's joy. True joy.

So I want to ask, and this may seem a little cliche...what brings you joy?

"Nila is said to be the most beautiful and poetic word in the Tamil language. It means “enchanting moon”, and denotes inner and outer beauty. It is auspicious and lucky. I knew from the moment I was pregnant that she would be a girl, and that she should be called Nila.

From the first moment I saw her, I knew we had chosen perfectly. She brought the light and beauty of the moon shining into our world. I am so much better because of her. She was my miracle baby, after a long and heartbreaking journey with infertility. I waited so long to hold her, but when I finally did, everything made sense. She healed me in such a deep way and every day, I am so grateful and honored that she chose me to be her mother, and that God saw it fit for me to raise this beautiful little soul. I love being Nila’s mommy!"

“Whatever problems your family is facing, whatever you must do to solve them, the beginning and the end of the solution is charity, the pure love of Christ. Without this love, even seemingly perfect families struggle. With it, even families with great challenges succeed"

God sends precious Spirits down to each and every family. He knows exactly who our families need because we are part of His. Words can't express how much He knows and loves us. Here's a story to illustrate this from Cassie, the mom in this adorable family:

"Life before Wesley I lost my faith, I was lost in general. But then I decided to go on a date with Robert who I met online. We immediately clicked and had an amazing time. We continued to see each other, every day thereafter. From the moment I met him I just knew he was the one. I trusted my gut. Meeting Robert was a plan I never realized God had for me. 1 whole year from the day we met, Wesley was born. Wesley and Robert restored my faith. They were the prayers I prayed for over and over again. We moved from Las Vegas to south Florida. We started new jobs.

But When Wesley was 4 months old he had a seizure that stopped and flipped our world upside down. From that moment until now we have had 12 hospitalizations, doctors. countless ER visits, illnesses and seizures. We spent nights up all night praying the seizure would stop. We stayed night in the hospital sleeping on floors or chairs. I quit my job to stay home with my baby. Finally we decided we needed more for Wesley and we packed up and moved to NC.

Wesley is the perfect example strength. He has no idea how strong he is or how strong he has made us. He doesn’t even know what happened to him. He is ALWAYS happy and cheery. He can make anyone’s day better. He reminds me daily to not take life so serious and enjoy all the little things. It’s a lot easier said than done but we try. Wesley is truly a blessing and I am forever grateful we were chosen to be his parents."

This was one of my first family photoshoots while on my mission and will forever be one of my favorites. Here's why:

Rachel and Josh are high school sweethearts. They knew they always wanted a family but it ended up taking longer than they had planned. When Tristan came he was a blessing straight from Heaven. He lit up their world with his big imagination and enthusiasm for life. He has autism but that never stopped him from doing big things! Sister Christiansen and I saw this first hand when we met him. He did so well at taking pictures, giving us huge grins and staying happy and bubbly the whole time (which may have been due to the fact that he got to keep his beloved bubble gun on him, no pun intended). He's very social and spent a few minutes running up and down the dock, entertaining all of us with his boundless amounts of energy. Their family inspired me. They have a bond that can't be broken and an unending supply of love for each other. đź’•

As I was taking pictures for Arianne and her sweet baby boy, we chatted about how parenthood gives us a glimpse at how our Father in Heaven views us. Think of the love you felt when you held your baby for the first time. Didn't it fill your soul? Think of their first steps, why were you so proud of them for accomplishing that seemingly small feat? A parent never stops loving their child, regardless of choices, distance, tantrums, or whether or not that love is reciprocated. Obviously we as humans aren't perfect, but I've come to know that God is the perfect parent. I know He hasn't stopped loving me for a second, even though I myself have turned away from Him multiple times in my life. I know He hasn't stopped loving you and He never will. And I know that that knowledge alone can aid you in moving mountains.

How have you seen our Heavenly Father's love in your life?

"Felipe is a great father. The boys look up to him with his work ethic and many times want to tag along with him to work. He bonds with them separately by watching discovery channel documentaries and history videos with Joseph and then by gaming on the PlayStation with Gabriel. The sweetest thing I love about him as a father is when he tucks them in and says prayers with them each night always giving thanks for our blessings. He has taught them many things and I can’t wait to see the boys continue to grow and take many of the qualities that I love in Felipe."
