12/9/22: Chastain Beach, also known as Surfer's Beach or "The Rocks," lies on the southern tip of Hutchinson Island near Stuart.

The surf is always different here, depending on passing storms and weather, according to one of the surfers who was asking me about the big lens on my camera.

I’m always impressed by the athleticism of these kids. It’s a lot of fun watching them, as they slice through and dance on the heavy surf.

The regular parking lot was full when I go there about 11:30, and had to park in the overflow lot across the street.

3/3/22: Constellations Sagittarius and Scorpius, the core of the Milky Way, with their star clusters, nebula, gas and dust clouds, along with Venus and Mars over House of Refuge, Ross Witham Beach, Hutchinson Island.

Venus is the brightest object in the early morning (4:30 AM) sky, with Mars to its lower right. The Waxing Crescent Moon was only .5% illuminated and below the horizon. If not for a few scattered clouds, it was a pretty good dark night sky.

The horizontal light on the horizon is a fishing boat heading to work.

Prime Milky Way season generally runs from June-August, when the core of the Milky Way is above the horizon most of the time. I’ve been waiting, more than a little impatiently, for an early season opportunity, on a New Moon morning.

The Milky Way is one of at least 100 billion galaxies in the universe. The Milky Way contains about 100 billion stars, and is about 100,000 light years wide.

3/4/22: Congressman Brian Mast, in his third term representing Florida’s 18th Congressional District, spoke to a large and interested crowd of residents at The Point in Stuart today.

Prior to his election, Mast served in the Army for more than 12 years. His decorations include the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal for Valor, the Purple Heart Medal, and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal.

In Afghanistan, Mast worked as a bomb disposal expert under the elite Joint Special Operations Command. The last IED he found resulted in catastrophic injuries, which included the loss of both legs.

While recovering at Walter Reed Medical Center, the advice his father gave stuck with him; that his greatest service to our country and the best example he could set for his children was still ahead of him.

Mast took this advice to heart and dedicated himself to finding new ways to serve.

Mast remained on active duty during his recovery, providing expertise to the National Nuclear Security Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, To***co & Fi****ms.

After his retirement from the Army, he continued working in counter-terrorism and national defense as an Explosive Specialist with the Department of Homeland Security.

In Congress, Mast serves as he did on the battlefield: without regard for personal gain or personal sacrifice.

He is a member of two committees: The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and The Foreign Affairs Committee.
