Morning Surf. No. 2
Cape May, NJ.

In April I had the wonderful opportunity to travel to Cape May, NJ to explore the coast and abundant marshes for the first time. After some scouting and adjusting the rhythm of the place began to grab hold, and I began to truly see the area with a new photographic eye. Known for its historic coastal buildings, abundant birdlife, and impressive wineries, I went the other way. What else was this unique area saying? What else did its unique natural heritage also have to say? I’m looking forward to sharing it with you over the coming months, I found it to be a subtle yet impressively beautiful place to explore.

Peace,
James

Adirondack Spring.

A true joy to return to one of my favorite images, but one I’ve rarely shared outside the art show circuit. This was such a lovely morning, one I’ve tried to replicate but alas the scene has succumb to succession.

Peace,
James

Too much fun to return to this collection of images from 2018. Thoroughly enjoyed putting together this article for Nature Vision Magazine. Not only did that give me a chance to return to the subject, but to think about adding to it in time and to retool some images that I had not touched in several years.

Nature Vision Magazine is a wonderful periodical, I would definitely recommend it for anyone interested in nature photography.

I’m grateful to have my Featured Works piece, Animal Abstracts, included in Issue 12 of Nature Vision Magazine, which explores the theme of the inner landscape.

This piece began with an accidental lens choice during a family trip to the San Diego Zoo. Instead of photographing animals in a more recognizable way, I found myself drawn to texture, form, skin, feathers, folds, and abstraction. What started as a limitation became an invitation to see differently.

This issue of Nature Vision brings together essays, portfolios, and conversations about the quiet ways our emotions, memories, and experiences shape the photographs we create.

You can learn more about the issue here: npn.link/issue-12

Thank you to .renwick.photography and for their interest in my work, it’s an honor to be included with such a fantastic group of fellow artists in Issue #12.

Juhyo. No. 1.
Central Japan. 2026

I guess in a way the emergence of Spring here has me reflecting back on this amazing Winter we just passed through. Here, Juhyo or “snow monsters” high in the Mt. Zao region of Central Japan. What an evening to be out there with them to see and feel their individual character.

Juhyo form as a result of prevailing winds and moisture from Siberia across the Sea of Japan and into the mountains of central Honchu where they form thick layers of rime ice at the higher elevations on all that stands in its path. Here, Aomori fir enduring Winter.

Believe in monsters,
James
