On Thursday last week, family members and fellow firefighters gathered at the quarters of Engine 92, Ladder 44, and Battalion 17 to honor the life of Lieutenant Vincent McMahon Jr. with a plaque dedication ceremony.

In 1994 Lt. McMahon Jr. joined the FDNY after serving this country as part of the 75th Ranger Regiment in the U.S Army. During his career in the FDNY, he was a firefighter in Ladder 34 and Rescue 1, spending most of his career as Lieutenant of Ladder 44. In 2025, Lt. McMahon Jr. passed away after suffering from 9/11 related illnesses from his time in the rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero.

In hearing stories from Members at the ceremony and listening to his wife, Haley, it is so evident how fond and loved he was. In years to come, I know stories and traditions of him will continue through the firehouse just as I have heard so many stories of previous Members who are no longer here.

This afternoon in Chinatown, a 2nd alarm fire occurred in a 6 story multiple dwelling. Heavy smoke was emanating from the basement with smoke making its way throughout the building. There were multiple pockets of fire which resulted in the transmission of a 2nd alarm.

While I have never posted about it publicly, last year I was presented with the honor of being made an Honorary Photographer of the FDNY by Commissioner Robert Tucker. Having my work and dedication recognized is an achievement I never dreamt of, I just showed up to EVERYTHING I could to capture moments with the goal of preserving this generation of firefighters. There has never needed to be a fire for me to get out and document the Members. From sports games to ceremonies and parades, if I can be there, I’m there. It is an honor that I am so incredibly proud of and cherish as this journey of documenting and supporting the FDNY has become my life.

Last night I was able to attend my first Honorary Fire Officers Association dinner at The Rock. It was fantastic being able to connect and meet so many others who share the same common passion for the FDNY, and for decades have dedicated a significant portion of their lives to the department. The speaker of the night was Chief of Safety James Canty who gave a really fascinating talk about the effect and outcome of wind driven fires in private dwellings. Getting to chat with and sit across from was a highlight of the night. Thank you to Lillian Bonsignore and First Deputy Commissioner Daniel Flynn for coming and sharing your time with everyone.

This evening just before 6pm, a car fire took place in front of 2 Broadway, at the corner of Bowling Green & Broadway. As bystanders recording the incident with sirens approaching in the distance, an explosion of what I can only assume to be the gas tank took place. Many were left terrified and running as the fireball and smoke filled the street.

It was a multiple alarm in the Bronx on a hot summer day last year. While running around documenting the story in front of me, I captured the first image of FF Matt Zimpfer and Captain Chris Ottomanelli. Fresh out of doing the work they love, their dirty appearance told a story to me in that particular moment. At the time, they were both strangers to me. That is far from the case in the 2nd and 3rd image as both have become good friends of mine whom I cherish capturing the moments of.

Today, Rescue 3 Members Lt. Mickey Conboy and Pete Constantine completed their final tour with the FDNY.

Joining the FDNY in 1985, Mickey served much of his career in the Bronx, as a FF with Engine 79, Ladder 37, Lieutenant in Squad 41, and ending his career as Lieutenant of Rescue 3.

To both Peter and Mickey, thank you for continuously welcoming me into your home and trusting me and my camera. With so much of the world on video, you both allowed me to freeze those moments in time and trusted my vision. It has been an absolute pleasure to unknowingly be documenting your final year with the FDNY. I look forward to seeing you both sooner rather than later.

Keep The Door Closed!

Recently there have multiple fatal fires where doors have been left open causing fire to spread further and faster from the original fire apartment. This MUST change. Closing the door behind you if your apartment has a fire is one of the most important safety measures to keep your neighbors safe and allowing everyone to exit the building.

While this has recently been noticed more and more, a significant fire during 2022 known as the Twin Parks Fire in the Bronx was there tragic scene of someone leaving their apartment door open. During that fire, smoke filled the entire building making it impossible for residents to escape leading to 17 fatalities. On 4.21.26, multiple doors left open at 660 E 187th St, in the Bronx, caused the midday fire to rapidly spread throughout the building where 2 people did not survive and multiple people were injured. This past Monday, a 1 year old child named Liam Parks did not survive and his 6 year old twin brother and sister are in critical condition following a blaze where fire engulfed the stairs and escape route for neighbors due to a door being open.

Please keep in mind it is THE LAW for every apartment door to be fully self closing. If your doors do not properly close, contact 311 ASAP.

Last night, Lieutenant Mickey Conboy of Rescue 3 completed his final night tour. I am incredibly grateful that I was able to capture this moment. A career that has spanned 41 years, being able to make photographs during the last few months of his career has been a great joy. Hopefully your last day tour on Friday is incredible.
