One thing I want parents to know before a Christmas session:

Your kids do not have to sit perfectly still for me. 😂

Of course I want to get you that nice family photo where everyone is together and looking at the camera.

But I also want the laughs, the funny faces, the little interactions, and the moments where they’re just being themselves.

Those are usually the photos that end up feeling the most like your family anyway.

So if you’ve been putting family photos off because you’re worried your kids won’t cooperate… don’t.

That part is my job. 📸🎄

This is Michael, and I wanted to share a little more about the person behind the portrait.

Michael is an artist with a lot of heart. He cares deeply about the work he creates and the people he hopes it reaches.

His latest project is his faith line inspired crosses. Each one is made by him personally, and he puts a lot of thought, time and prayer into every piece.

I've been working alongside Michael to help him share that work with more people. We're also putting together a live Whatnot show where people can see his creations, hear more of his story, and get a better look at the work that goes into each piece.

That's one reason I love portraits like this. The tools, the jacket, the workspace — they tell you something about the person before you ever read the caption.

For me, Pivotal Star isn't just about making a nice photo or video. I want to help people tell the story behind what they do and why it matters to them.

Michael has something meaningful he wants to put into the world, and I'm proud to help him share it.

This is really what I want Pivotal Star to be about.

A photo or video isn't important just because it looks good. It's important because of the person in it, the laugh you remember, the way somebody looked at you, or a moment you didn't realize you'd miss until later.

That's why I care so much about preserving these things.

Years from now, I want you to be able to look back and remember not just what it looked like — but what it felt like.

I love portraits like this because they tell you something about the person before you ever read a caption.

The tools. The jacket. The little details in the background. This is his space, and that matters.

I don't think every portrait needs a perfect backdrop. Sometimes the right place is the one that actually means something to you.

I got to photograph this portrait during a workshop with Hunt's Photo & Video, and I really like how it came together.

The red lighting worked so well with the colors in her uniform and gave the portrait a much different feel than a traditional senior photo.

Workshops like this give me a chance to experiment, try different ideas, and keep pushing myself creatively — which is something I want to bring into every Pivotal Star session.

Always learning. Always trying something new. 📸
