My uncle, my sensei, a warrior for Christ, a coach for the willing, a champion for the underdog, a storyteller for the listener, a joker for the witty, a legend for those who believe!
Lucky are we to have been touched by Lucky in our lives. Lucky are they to have him in Heaven today, for he is singing and shouting the victory!

The Denver Post ran an article last year highlighting “Brother Tandems” at the 2023 state wrestling tournament in the 2A division. While the article had a cool run down of nine sets of the grappling brothers; they got something very wrong.

They missed two sets of 2A brothers. Both of these duos happened to be from the un-notable southeast corner of the state. One set of brothers that the big city overlooked became the only brother team to bring home matching gold medals.

The other set of brothers is part of a much bigger picture than state titles or gold medals. A much bigger story that is beginning to show some signs of a happier ending. A story that has taken much more fight and grit than 6 minutes on the mat ever will. This is the story of not a duo of brothers but a trio. The two that the Post forgot last year were the little brother and the big brother. The middle brother should have been on the mat as well but he was too busy fighting for something that does not collect dust or fade like trophies tend to do…Aidan Halloran was too busy fighting for his life.

His freshman season seemed like a normal start to a HS wrestling career. His sophomore year brought the sudden loss of the boys’ dad not long before Christmas. In the aftermath of that tragedy, Aidan’s sophomore state tournament he made it through the quarters- but by way of a blown knee so a medical out in the semi’s was the end. Summer before his junior year brought the nightmare of a stomach ache one day and life saving surgery the next; shortly followed by the diagnosis of leukemia. Surgery after surgery and complication after complication ate away at his junior year and the start of his senior year. Aidan didn’t know if he would ever step back on the mat again.

And then it happened. With barely enough gas to get back to the circle in that first match, it seemed that he regained strength with each minute on the clock. Which made for a lot of tears from a lot of people when they handed him the Outstanding Wrestler award at that first tournament back in Lamar, Colorado, almost the furthest part of the forgotten corner of the state.

Aidan, we are behind you. We see you. Keep fighting. Keep wrestling. Keep a hold of the Light that has walked you through the valleys. The Light that is bigger than any spotlight in the big city will ever be. Fans, please share this for the love of these athletes. The ones from the big cities and from the small towns. Let’s show the country what the Post missed out on and let’s show some love to Aidan by sharing the story of this one amazing kid from one small town.
