Every pet owner tells me the same thing before a session.

“They never sit still.”

Challenge accepted.

Somehow, with a few treats, a lot of patience, and me making noises no grown adult should ever make in public, we end up with moments like this. One perfect head tilt. One leaf balanced on a very patient head. One expression that says, “I deserve extra treats for putting up with this.”

The best part is that every pet has a personality all their own. My job is not just to photograph them. It’s to capture the goofy grin, the curious look, the zoomie energy, or the sweet eyes that make them part of your family.

They may only be with us for part of our lives, but to them, we are their whole world. That’s a story worth preserving.

Every family promises me the exact same thing before their session.

“We’ll try our best.”

As if they think I’m expecting everyone to stand perfectly still, smile on command, and never blink.

Spoiler alert… I am not.

The best photos usually happen somewhere between the giggles, the bear hugs, the “Mom, she’s touching me!” moments, and Dad pretending he doesn’t actually enjoy being there.

That’s where the real memories live.

Years from now, these photos won’t remind you of how perfectly everyone posed. They’ll remind you how your family laughed together, hugged a little tighter, and made another season worth remembering.

She showed up looking cool, calm, and collected. Five minutes earlier? She was asking, “What am I supposed to do with my hands?” It’s amazing how often that happens.

By the end of the session, she was serving movie poster energy, making sunglasses look cooler than the rest of us ever could, and reminding me that seniors always underestimate how photogenic they really are.

That’s my favorite part of senior sessions. They almost always start with, “I’m awkward.” They almost always end with, “Wait… that’s actually me?”

No smoke machines. No superpowers. Just a little laughter, terrible jokes from the photographer, and somehow we end up with photos that parents frame and grandparents immediately claim as their Facebook profile picture.

Some dogs have a signature look. This sweet girl had a signature head tilt.

Every time I made a funny sound, asked a question, or called her name, that adorable little head would tip to the side like she was genuinely trying to figure out what I was saying. It was impossible not to smile.

And can we talk about her coloring? Between her beautifully speckled coat, those warm amber eyes, and the unique markings that made her look like a one-of-a-kind work of art, she didn’t need fancy props or elaborate poses. She was the masterpiece.

When we took these photos, she was still waiting patiently at a rescue for the family who would finally call her their own. Looking at her, it was hard to believe someone hadn’t already fallen in love with that curious expression and sweet personality.

The best part of this story? She didn’t have to wait much longer. Not long after this session, she was adopted and went home with her forever family. I’d like to think these photos captured exactly who she was: a goofy, beautiful, lovable dog just waiting for someone to see her the way we did. Sometimes all it takes is one look… and one perfectly timed head tilt. ❤️🐾

Meet Zeppelin. On paper, he was completely ready to celebrate America’s 250th birthday. He put on his patriotic top hat, practiced his best “good boy” face, and posed like a tiny founding father. He looked every bit the part of a fearless American pup. But if history has taught us anything, it’s that appearances can be deceiving.

The moment the first firework lights up the sky, there’s a very good chance this brave little patriot will be conducting the rest of his celebration from the safety of underneath the couch. From there, he’ll be accepting unlimited treats as emotional support while pretending the loud booms are happening somewhere very, very far away.

As cute as Zeppelin looks in his patriotic best, tonight is also a good reminder to keep your pets safely indoors, make sure their ID tags are up to date, and give them a quiet place where they can feel secure if fireworks aren’t their favorite part of the holiday.

Happy 250th birthday, America! And to all the Zeppelins out there celebrating from underneath the furniture… we understand. 🇺🇸🐾

Some dogs need a full hour to warm up to the camera.

Not this guy.

He showed up like he’d already read the contract.

He hit his mark.
He looked at the camera.
He flashed that grin.
He somehow managed to look both majestic and like he was one zoomie away from launching himself into the next county.

In between photos, he was all energy, bouncing from one exciting thing to the next. The second I asked him to pose, though? Instant professional.

I’m pretty sure he’s been secretly taking modeling classes when his family isn’t looking.

Honestly… if all of my clients behaved this well, I’d be out of a job. He made it look way too easy.

Two years ago, Hazel was convinced she could summon fall just by bouncing high enough.

She gave it everything she had.

Fast forward to today… it’s 100 degrees, the grass crunches when you walk on it, and stepping outside feels like opening the oven to check on a casserole.

Hazel would like to formally request the return of cool mornings, crunchy leaves, and the kind of weather that makes zoomies mandatory.

Until then, we’ll just keep looking through old fall photos and pretending sweater season is right around the corner.

Fall sessions can’t get here soon enough. 🍂
