Rhode Island, what a night! 🎉
Congratulations to:
💚 Governor-elect Helena Foulkes, who will be only the second woman to lead our state
💗 Lt. Governor Sabina Matos, reelected and always cheering on RI entrepreneurs
💙 Congressman Gabe Amo, reelected and showing up for our community every time
💙 Providence Mayor-elect David Morales, who will be the youngest mayor in our city’s history
Most of the photos in this carousel comes from the Diversity Business Exhibit, and that’s what makes these wins feel personal to me. These leaders didn’t just take the stage. They walked the aisles, laughed with vendors, asked questions, and celebrated the small, diverse businesses that power Rhode Island.
As a small business owner here, I don’t take that support for granted. Thank you for seeing us. Here’s to what’s ahead! 🤍

Some moments you photograph stay with you. Last year I had the honor of photographing Keisha Lance Bottoms at BMC’s EQTY event, under a theme I still think about: Progress Under Pressure. Sitting in that room, camera in hand, listening to her speak, I knew I was witnessing someone special.

Last night, Georgia made history. Keisha Lance Bottoms is the first Black woman elected governor anywhere in the United States. 🎉
Congratulations, Governor-elect Bottoms. Progress under pressure, indeed. I’m so proud to have captured a small piece of your story. 🤎

If you've hit the "every photographer's site looks the same" stage of your search, here's how to actually tell them apart: skip the pretty posed shots and look at whether the couple seems like real people.

This is Holly and Robert at the Roger Williams Botanical Center. I didn't pose most of it. I stayed close and caught what was already happening, like the first look Holly shared with her father, then the first look she shared with Robert.

That's what candid actually means in practice, not just a word on a website. You get to be present at your own wedding while someone quietly catches the real thing.

So when you compare photographers, don't just ask whether the photos are pretty. Ask whether the couples actually look like themselves. Then look at a full gallery, not the highlights.

You're not unphotogenic. You've just been posed badly your whole life, by people yelling "look natural" at you, which is genuinely the least natural instruction there is.
Here's what I tell every couple who's convinced they're awkward on camera: the stiffness was never you. It was the posing.
When I photograph a couple, we don't hold uncomfortable poses until our faces hurt. We actually do things. Walk, whisper, laugh. Look at each other instead of the camera. That's where the real photos come from, the half-second after the "pose," when you forget I'm there.
So if you're newly engaged and quietly dreading your photos because you "never photograph well," take a breath. That's my whole specialty. Nervous, stiff, no clue what to do with your hands? You're exactly the couple I do my best work with.

I share a lot of this take-the-pressure-off wedding stuff. Follow along and let's make it less scary. 🧡

Big pinch-me moment this week... an image I shot on Martha's Vineyard ran in People magazine! It's Phylicia Rashad and AARP CEO Dr. Myechia Minter-Jordan at the Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival, credit: Piper Brown Photography for AARP.
I spent this whole summer bouncing between corporate events out on the Island, and this is officially the highlight. Still a little giddy about it.

Something a little different is happening on May 2nd, and I want you to be part of it.

I'm shooting micro-engagement sessions at Open Valley — a neighborhood-wide open studios event in Providence's Valley Arts District. Former mill buildings. The river greenway. 75+ artists and makers filling the streets.

Two ways to join:
→ Walk-in session: $40 · 10 min · 3 images · no booking needed
→ Open Valley Experience: $100 · 20 min · 10 images · reserved slot

Pre-booked spots are limited. Link in bio.

It was an honor to cover this event for BMC. It was a day filled with vulnerability, strength and knowledge.

When spring isn’t “springing” yet, you can be the pop of color in your session.

When photographing in early spring in New England, things can be a little drab and lackluster. That’s an invitation to wear bold colors.

These two definitely understood the assignment.
