Should we have an engagement session?

It’s a question we get asked frequently on our vibe check (aka consult) calls. I usually answer with something to the effect of, “I’ll never tell you that you have to have one, but then can be great for practice and getting a feel it if you’ve never been professionally photographed before.” But I’ve been thinking a lot about another reason you should have one.

Your wedding day is a more stylized and curated representation of the two of you - and rightfully so. You deserve to wear a fancy outfit and eat fancy food to celebrate this milestone in your life. Your engagement session, however, can celebrate and memorialize the more mundane, everyday ways that you and your partner exist together. And I think there’s something so beautiful about that - it’s what makes up most of our lives together! It’s why I encourage my couples to choose a place that’s personal to them. I want it to feel like any old day or date night with your partner.

Take for example Mario and Liz. They’re getting married at Olio | Wedding & Event Space 🌈 next month, and we are so beyond stoked for it! When they booked their engagement session they knew they wanted to go to New Deal Fruit Inc. where they like to go to do some grocery shopping and get insanely delicious sandwiches. We also made time to hop over to a beach in the town Mario grew up in and Liz was welcomed into Mario’s family.

So if you’re still reading this:
A) let this be a sign to book the damn engagement session - or hell even just a regular old couples or family session

Kinda chic to get inspired by our couples’ super dope elopements and micro weddings

Half (or more) of all of our bookings each year are elopements and micro weddings, and they are all SO different! That’s part of what we love about these celebrations of love and marriage. With more time and freedom to plan an entirely unique experience, we always have a blast running around cities (usually Providence or Somerville 💗) with these cuties!

A BEAUTIFUL review from Abbie and Chad.

Abbie and I met online years ago while she was working for Hey Rhody. She asked me to help write a few articles and provide some photos for the magazine over the years as well as writing an article ABOUT us! It was the coolest!! I legit felt like a celebrity!

So when she reached out to ask us to photograph her and Chad’s wedding, to say I was honored would be an understatement. I was ecstatic and so so grateful!!

These two cuties instantly felt like old friends, and we couldn’t have asked for a more kind and loving couple’s day to be a part of.

This coming weekend I’m second shooting with my photo bestie Vi again!! And it reminded me that I never posted these gems from the last time I worked with them! It was a GORGEOUS late August wedding at Castle Hill.

I was so fu**in stoked she asked me to tag along for this one. I mean those florals alone were 🤤🤤🤤🤤

Can’t wait to work with them again at the New England Aquarium next! 🐧

City weddings in the summer are so incredibly underrated 🌆

There’s something quiet about Providence in the summer. All the college kids have gone home. Tourists are flocking to the coast. And that extra hit of sunshine makes everyone who is still around so much happier.

So if you’re considering getting married in the summer in New England, consider looking to Providence instead of Newport for a more low key wedding vibe. ✌🏻

What do these photos all have in common (besides being the weddings and elopements of some dope Rhode Tripper couples)?

They’re ALL q***r couples at their q***r ass weddings! It can be easy to look at a WLW or MLM presenting relationship and be like “that’s a q***r wedding”, but as a bisexual woman in a straight presenting relationship myself, I want you to know that your q***rness is valid and affirmed here no matter who you choose to love or how others perceive you. Your wedding is q***r because you’re q***r! Your relationship is q***r because you’re q***r!

And all forms of q***r love deserve to be celebrated as such!
