Usually, I opt to keep these picture posts in the perspective of my thoughts and my emotions only, but not for today’s post — the (American) gun violence epidemic has gone on for far too long, infecting and paralyzing the thoughts of millions of innocent families. In the midst of the chaos at Tyson’s Corner Mall today, hundreds of people — my friends and I included — hid in the backs of stores in the local mall under the suspicion of an active shooter threat, wondering if we would be able to return safely to our families at home or not. Although the Fairfax County Police Department was able to thankfully arrive at the conclusion that it was not an active shooter threat (but rather a mundane light fixture being broken), it leaves me disheartened and frankly disgusted that the herd mentality of today’s events stems from a larger paranoia and fact that gun violence is rampant in our country. I can only hope and pray that Congress is able to reach bipartisan solutions on curtailing such violence, so that we no longer have to fear such incidences in our routine lives.
