“Peace looks good on her. So does joy, laughter, and the kind of self-love that stops asking permission.” ✨

📸 Behind the Lens: I photographed this series back in 2022 as part of my 50/50 Project, a portrait series documenting women entering, living, and leaving their 50s. Life delayed the release, but the message is still right on time.

Swipe ➡️ to meet April (she/her), who was 53 at the time of this photoshoot and brought the kind of energy that makes you sit up a little straighter. Her presence was warm, open, joyful, and grounded in something many women spend years trying to reclaim: peace.

👉 “In my 50s, I’ve learned to w**d out negativity, protect my peace, and live the life I love.”

And honestly? That lesson is written all over these images.

In one frame, she’s smiling brightly with her hands resting on her chest, like a woman who has finally come home to herself.
In another, she’s laughing with her head tilted back, fully in the moment, not asking life for permission to enjoy it.
And in the others, she meets the camera with the kind of softness and confidence that says: I know who I am now.

April shared that part of her self-love journey has meant choosing herself on purpose—meditating, going to the spa, making her own decisions, finding joy, and learning that love starts within. She also joined this project because she believed her story could help somebody else. And that part? That shows.

Because life does not come to a halt after 50. For many women, it’s just beginning.

📸 Behind the Lens: I photographed this series back in 2022 as part of my 50/50 Project, a portrait series honoring 50 women entering, living, and moving through their 50s. Life delayed the public release, but good work knows when it’s time. This felt like the right moment.

Swipe ➡️ to meet Alexis (she/her)—entrepreneur, nurturer, visionary, and co-founder of a custom footwear and accessories brand built with legacy in mind. She was 50 at the time of this shoot, and these images carry the quiet confidence of a woman who has lived, learned, and kept becoming.

👉 “At 50, I’m still growing, still learning, and still becoming.”

That’s what I love about her story. There’s no tone here of winding down or shrinking back. No “best years are behind me” nonsense. Just truth. Just gratitude. Just a woman deciding that growth did not stop because she hit 50.

These first images capture that energy so well:
1️⃣ Standing tall in white, hands in her pockets, looking straight into the camera with ease.
2️⃣ A softer smile turned slightly toward the distance—like she can already see what’s next.
3️⃣ Seated, grounded, reflective, and fully at home in herself.

And that self-trust did not arrive by accident. Alexis shared that her journey to self-love took time. Low self-esteem, depression, and other people’s opinions once shaped how she saw herself. But wisdom has a way of cleaning house. Now she knows better what matters—and what absolutely does not.

“A steady smile, folded arms, and the kind of presence that says, ‘I know who I am now.’ Vicki is the kind of woman who learned that peace gets protected, not negotiated.” ✨

📸 Behind the Lens: I shot this series back in 2022 as part of my 50/50 Project, documenting women entering, living, and redefining their 50s. Life delayed the public release, but truth like this doesn’t expire. The timing still fits.

Swipe ➡️ to meet Vicki (she/her)—a talented photographer, videographer, and graphic designer who was 54 at the time of this shoot and already clear on something many women spend years trying to learn:

👉 “In my 50s, I’ve learned that other people’s jealousy, intimidation, or dishonesty is theirs to carry—not mine.”

That kind of clarity does not come cheap. It comes from living. From being misunderstood. From watching other people project their limitations, pessimism, and mess onto you—and deciding you will not let it make a home in your spirit.

For Vicki, self-love looks like protecting her peace. It looks like refusing to be consumed by other people’s emotions. It looks like loving herself enough to shake off what was never hers to hold in the first place.

These images say it without begging for attention:
1️⃣ Seated, smiling, grounded—peace with presence.
2️⃣ Laughing, hands clasped—joy that doesn’t need permission.
3️⃣ Standing strong, eyes locked on the camera—clear, confident, and unmoved.

And honestly? That kind of self-possession is the flex.

Your Turn: What have you had to stop carrying in order to protect your peace? Drop a comment below, and share this with a woman who’s learning to choose herself without apology.

“Grace, laughter, and a woman learning to feel at home in her own skin—Rachna reminds us that getting older is not the tragedy we were sold.” ✨

📸 Behind the Lens: I photographed this series in 2022 as part of my 50/50 Project, a portrait and story series honoring women entering, living, and moving through their 50s. Life delayed the public release, but truth like this doesn’t expire. It waits for the right time.

Swipe ➡️ to meet Rachna (she/her). She was newly 51 at the time of this shoot, stepping into a new chapter with honesty, humor, and a deeper sense of self.

👉 “50 changed my body, but it also taught me how to be in the moment.”

That kind of wisdom only comes from living.
From noticing the aches, the shifts, the reading glasses, the body doing what bodies do—and still deciding your life is not shrinking. It’s just changing shape.

What I love about Rachna’s story is that it doesn’t pretend aging is effortless. She tells the truth. Her body felt different. But her mind? Softer. Less hypervigilant. More able to breathe. More able to enjoy the moment she’s actually in.

And that same honesty shows up in how she’s learned to love herself. Perfection stopped running the show. She’s embraced being anxious, being sensitive, being Indian, being fully herself. No more hiding. No more apologizing.

These images hold that beautifully—ease, joy, reflection, and a woman who looks like she knows who she is.

“Poised. Grounded. Clear. At 50, Melody wears the kind of confidence that doesn’t need to raise its voice.” ✨

Swipe ➡️ to meet Melody (she/her). At the time of this portrait session, she was 50 and carrying the kind of self-awareness that only comes from living, learning, and deciding that peace is worth protecting.

👉 “In my 50s, I’ve learned that patience is a virtue—and I protect it accordingly.”

And honestly? That line hits.

Melody shared that self-love did not begin with performance. It began with self-care. What started as a desire to maintain her health grew into something deeper: a way of showing up for herself with consistency, discipline, and respect. Daily movement. Daily commitment. Daily reminders that how she feels matters.

These images reflect that energy:
1️⃣ meeting the camera with quiet certainty seated, calm and thoughtful, hand under chin
2️⃣ seated, calm and thoughtful, hand under chin
3️⃣ laughing freely, soft and unguarded
4️⃣ standing strong, looking ahead

There’s something powerful about a woman who has stopped giving endless access to anything that drains her. That is not hardness. That is wisdom.

“A side-eye, a laugh, a little serenity, and almost 50 years of wisdom—Jauffmick is proof that aging doesn’t have to look small, quiet, or frumpy.” ✨

📸 Behind the Lens: I shot this series back in 2022 as part of my 50/50 Project, documenting women entering, living, and leaving their 50s. Jauffmick was 49 at the time, standing at the edge of a new decade and meeting it with intellect, intention, and her full self.

Swipe ➡️ to meet Jauffmick (she/her)—a woman approaching 50 with clarity about what matters: continued emotional growth, acceptance of others without losing herself, healthy boundaries, family, joy, and aging well.

👉 “As I approach 50, I’m choosing emotional growth, healthy boundaries, and a life that keeps expanding.”

And honestly? That hits.

Jauffmick shared that she wanted to remain intellectually engaged in her work, continue growing in relationship with her husband and daughters, and stay open to new possibilities—even overseas opportunities if life aligned that way. That’s grown-woman energy right there: rooted, but not stuck.

These images carry that balance:
1️⃣ seated with a side glance and smile—confident and fully in on the moment
2️⃣ leaning forward, laughing into the camera—because joy belongs here too
3️⃣ profile view, eyes into the distance—still imagining what’s next
4️⃣ standing, eyes closed, hands clasped—grounded, centered, and at peace

One of the things I love most about her story is this: she joined this project because she believes aging should not be reduced to some tired, frumpy stereotype. She wanted to do something meaningful, beautiful, and reflective—and baby, she did exactly that.

Your turn: What’s one thing you want more of as you grow older—joy, peace, confidence, boundaries, freedom? Comment below and share this with a woman who’s stepping into a new season with her head high.

“Joy looks different when it’s earned. And Richelle wears it well.” ✨

📸 Behind the Lens: I photographed this series in 2022 as part of my 50/50 Project, a portrait series honoring women entering, living, and moving through their 50s. Life delayed the public release, but the wisdom in these images is still right on time.

Swipe ➡️ to meet Richelle (she/her), photographed here at 52—a woman whose presence feels grounded, warm, and fully rooted in herself.

👉 “Living fully, breathing deeply, and making room for self-care are some of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves.”

That lesson did not come cheap.

Richelle turned 50 in June of 2020, and later that same year, her mother passed unexpectedly. That kind of loss has a way of stripping life down to what is real. What remains is truth: tomorrow is not promised, burnout is not a badge of honor, and self-neglect is not the price we should have to pay to love everyone else well.

These images hold that truth beautifully:
1️⃣ laughing openly—because joy still belongs to her
2️⃣ seated, smiling straight into the camera—steady and sure
3️⃣ standing with hands in her pockets—grounded, confident, unbothered
4️⃣ holding pillows in her Morgan State University colors—a quiet nod to legacy, pride, and the woman she has become

And her journey to self-love? Baby, it was built through boundaries. Through unlearning people-pleasing. Through realizing that pouring from an empty well will leave you dry and resentful. Through finally giving herself the same care she had spent years giving away.

Your Turn: What has your journey to self-love taught you? Drop a comment below, and share this with a woman who is still learning that rest, boundaries, and self-respect are not selfish—they’re necessary.

“A soft smile, open posture, and the kind of confidence that doesn’t need to raise its voice—Cheryl is what it looks like when a woman stops fighting to prove her worth and starts living like she already knows it.” ✨

📸 Behind the Lens: I photographed this series in 2022 as part of my 50/50 Project, a portrait and interview series documenting women entering, living, and moving through their 50s. Life delayed the public release, but truth like this doesn’t expire. It just waits for the right moment to land.

Swipe ➡️ to meet Cheryl (she/her), who was 56 at the time of this session and fully stepping into a deeper kind of self-love—the kind built from wisdom, discernment, and deciding that proving your value to everybody is a raggedy job you no longer apply for.

👉 “I am unapologetically me, and there is value in who I am.”

That truth didn’t arrive overnight. It came through lived experience. Through learning to let go of people, situations, and expectations that no longer fit. Through paying attention to quality over quantity. Through understanding that not everything, and not everyone, is meant to stay forever.

These images tell that story beautifully:
1️⃣ Standing tall, slight smile, eyes on the camera—grounded in who she is.
2️⃣ Seated with bright warmth, hands resting in her lap—peace that doesn’t need performance.
3️⃣ Arms wrapped around herself, eyes closed, smiling—because self-love is not theory when you’ve finally learned how to hold yourself well.

Cheryl shared that she has stopped waiting for others and has started doing more of what she likes, how she likes. That right there? That’s freedom.

Your turn: What has your journey to self-love taught you? Drop a thought in the comments, and share this with a woman who is learning to choose herself more boldly.

“Soft smile. Steady gaze. Open hands. Michelle carries the kind of presence that says: I know who I am, and I didn’t get here easy.” ✨

📸 Behind the Lens: I shot this series back in 2022 as part of my 50/50 Project, documenting women entering, living, and moving through their 50s. Michelle was 49 at the time of this session, with her 50th birthday just 24 days away. Life delayed the public release, but truth like this doesn’t expire.

Swipe ➡️ to meet Michelle (she/her)—a woman of faith, service, joy, rhythm, and depth.

👉 “Entering my 50s has taught me that I am fearfully and wonderfully made, led by God, and called to serve, encourage, and give back.”

And baby, that kind of knowing doesn’t come from cute quotes and good lighting alone. It comes from surviving what tried to break you, healing what once hurt you, and deciding your life still gets to be full of purpose.

Michelle shared that her road to self-love was rough. Early childhood trauma was part of the story. But healing found her too. Through faith, therapy, and time, self-love became real—fully and truly manifested over a decade ago.

These images hold that truth:
1️⃣ Standing at an angle, smiling into the camera—grounded, warm, and clear.
2️⃣ Seated, looking off into the distance—like a woman who knows there is still more ahead.
3️⃣ Head bowed, arms extended, fingers in gyan mudra—peace, surrender, and power in one frame.

And one more thing? Michelle is a dancer and a lover of house music, which honestly tracks—because even her stillness feels like rhythm.

“Strength, softness, laughter, and a hard-earned kind of grace—Amanda reminds us that getting older doesn’t mean getting stuck. It means getting clearer.” ✨

📸 Behind the Lens: I shot this series back in 2022 as part of my 50/50 Project, documenting 50 women entering, living, and owning their 50s. Life delayed the release, but truth like this doesn’t expire. It simply waits for the right moment to be heard.

Swipe ➡️ to meet Amanda (she/her)—newly married at the time of this shoot, grounded in love, shaped by family, and stepping into 51 with a deeper understanding of what really matters.

👉 “Turning 50 taught me to let go of expectations and appreciate the blessing of each day.”

There’s something powerful about a woman who has stopped measuring her life by pressure and started measuring it by presence.

Amanda shared that her dreams have become more realistic, more open, and more relationship-centered. She used to be focused on career, financial stability, and pleasing others—but with time came perspective. These days, she’s learning to show herself grace, stop taking herself so seriously, and forgive more freely.

Today’s images reflect that energy:
1️⃣ Seated with her hand on her hip, looking directly into the camera—steady, grounded, sure of herself.
2️⃣ Smiling softly toward the camera—warmth, openness, and ease.
3️⃣ Laughing and looking upward—the kind of joy that comes when you stop gripping life so tightly.

And honestly? That kind of growth looks real good on her.

Your Turn: What has your 40s or 50s taught you about grace, family, or letting go of old expectations? Drop a comment below and share this with a woman whose journey deserves to be honored too.
