I'm ready for summer nights that ended like this one night did four years ago! I can still feel the humidity permeating the electric atmosphere.

Saturday a quartet of Utah Railway EMD's hauls sand for the oil field. They made an appearance in Helper, Utah on a beautiful November day.

"A Hard Shove."

I bet the crews felt this in their seats as I caught the helpers being added to a westbound coal train. Seeing the pace as they descended backwards. I pulled out my phone to video the slack action.

I didn't think the noise wouldn't of been that loud, but it made my ears ring, and presumably had startled the crowd that had gathered for Harry Potter night on Helper main street.

You won't forget the taste of coal dust because it has a certain indescribable taste after a huge plume floated towards me. The coal on the hoppers even fell out a little too.

After the dust settled the coal train eventually pulled ahead, and the empty manifest cars normally from a local were added to the rear DPU.

On the first of July we received a visiting officers special for the Union Pacific Railroad in Helper, Utah.
On board was Jim Vena CEO for Union Pacific.

I was initially at work thinking I wasn't going to be able to make it over. Lucky for me they had to go slow, and took their time out on the desert. Leaving me just enough time to make it over to Helper.

The cars were good looking and the locomotives looked to be in decent shape paint wise.

Happy Father's Day to all you fathers.

The Provo to Denver belonging to the BNSF rolls through Helper, Utah on a fine Father's Day afternoon.

A healthy consist with a long string of rail cars lead to a long video. Check out the multiple lead locomotives as they waddle down the track for a moment.

It's my eleventh year anniversary with my dear wife. We stopped over in Helper to enjoy the Price River Trail. A loaded IPP coal train came into town ready for the helper service.

My object of this video is to not only recognize my vows done eleven years ago, but to show the importance of the rear end locomotive known as DPU. They faithfully pushed their way up the grade on the way out of town today.

I'd also like to bring attention to the set of IPP hoppers. Which sadly are in the waning days of their career! It's been awesome to watch the same un-vandalized cars ride the rails these past few years.

I cut this video down to just hopefully represent the gradient of Union Pacific's Provo Subdivision double mainline through sound.
You don't see the train for a solid minute even though the traffic on U.S. Highway Six tried to obscure the sound of seven massive locomotives pulling and pushing their way uphill.
*Notice the singing of the rails is also pronounced.

It's amazing to see the effort of three locomotives pulling, and pushing a heavy coal drag. The strain of a stationary coal train can be manifested by the roar of the engines, and the singing of the rails. You have to be there in person to physically feel the ground shake. Something I enjoy everytime I'm in Helpers railyard.

I was in Helper visiting Adam Vitz when a westbound West Elk coal train came into town. The second locomotive in line was a SD70m. I believe it's the first time for me seeing an "m" unit in a coal train.

I was at the gym this evening in Price, Utah. I made my way to the tracks at Railroad Ave. to see if the lights indicated anything moving.
No sooner had it turned my truck around to park. I heard a crew blowing the horn in Carbonville. With luck, and timing on my side I filmed this crude oil train belonging to the Union Pacific as they made their way east in the early evening.
