Courtney & Will's maternity session hit a little different... in the best way. Courtney and I have been close since high school, and I have had the honor to photograph so many of her life events. From convincing her to be my model so I could practice photography, senior photos, engagement photos, wedding and now maternity photos.

I truly love photographing all these stages of life and love being Courtney's friend even more. I already know she's going to be an amazing mom to such a sweet little girl.

This session felt more like spending an afternoon with friends than anything else. We wandered around the field, climbed over hay bales, chased the good light, and laughed at the kids’ random jokes.

The Freeman family is extra special to me. Marsha watched my son during his daycare years, and her kids have always treated him like their little buddy. So getting to photograph their family session was truly like an afternoon with friends.

There’s just something extra fun about photographing a couple I’ve known since when they were dating. These two are repeat clients from engagement photos, wedding photos and now anniversary photos, and they’re always down for *whatever* to get the photo even when it’s literally below freezing and none of us can feel our faces.

Sessions like this remind me why I love this.

Fall, FFA, and friends… honestly the perfect combo.
I got to hang out with some of the coolest FFA officers and snap their photos while we all pretended the overcast chilly weather was “totally fine.”

If you know Courtney, you already know her love for sunflowers runs deep. 🌻 I’ve been friends with her for over 10 years, and whenever I’m stumped on what to get her, I just grab something with sunflowers and it’s basically guaranteed to be a win.

So when she told me that having sunflower photos with Will was on her bucket list, it was an immediate yes from me. We laughed, we wandered through the field, and I got to capture a little piece of their story that’s so them.

Sessions like this remind me why I love what I do. It’s not just about photos, it’s about documenting what matters most to you.

Let me tell you, our own family session was chaos. My son was not having it (spoiler: he came down with a stomach bug later that day 🙃), the kids were running wild, we had to reschedule from the original date due to Kansas weather and at one point, I’m pretty sure someone was bribing with snacks (it’s me I was the someone). And you know what? I wouldn’t change a thing.

Because this is family. It’s laughter, love, and a little bit of chaos all wrapped up in a photo that we’ll look back on years from now. It’s the way my parents embrace their grandkids, how my siblings and I have grown, and how the next generation is already adding their own energy to the mix.

So if you’re stressing about your family session not being "perfect", don’t. It’s not about perfect. It’s about real. And real is worth remembering. 💛
