Morning Sunrise at Sprague Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park

First light hitting the Continental Divide at Sprague Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. The water was perfectly still at dawn — a mirror reflection of Hallett Peak, Otis Peak, and the surrounding ridgeline. The golden hour glow on the rock faces only lasts about 15 minutes before the sun climbs too high. Got there in the dark and waited. Worth every minute.

Nashville Skyline at Night from the Korean Veterans Memorial Bridge

Downtown Nashville lit up on a January night — shot from the Korean Veterans Memorial Bridge looking toward Broadway. The AT&T Building (the "Batman Building") anchors the skyline while the honky-tonks glow along the riverfront below. You can see the WKDF tower, the WeWork building, and the Cumberland River reflecting all of it back. 35mm at f/7.1, 1/30 sec to keep the city sharp.

Grotto Falls in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee

Grotto Falls is one of the only waterfalls in the Smokies you can walk behind. The 25-foot drop tucks into a mossy grotto along the Trillium Gap Trail — about 1.3 miles in from the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. Long exposure to get that silky flow into the shallow pool. The moss and rhododendron framing this spot make it feel like another world, even on a busy trail day.

Christine Falls drops 69 feet beneath a stone bridge on the road to Paradise in Mount Rainier National Park. The moss-covered canyon walls and that turquoise pool at the base make this one of the most photographed spots in the park. Long exposure to smooth the water, shot from the overlook just off the road. October colors starting to creep in on the evergreens.

This old Ford Model T delivery truck sits roadside in Cripple Creek, Colorado — a former gold mining town turned tourist stop at 9,494 feet. "Maudie's Old Tyme Photos, Antiques, Ice Cream" painted on the wooden cab. The selective color treatment felt right for something this weathered. Still has its Colorado plates on.

Mingo Falls in Cherokee, North Carolina - Great Smoky Mountains

At 120 feet, Mingo Falls is one of the tallest waterfalls in the southern Appalachians. The hike is short but steep — 161 steps up from the parking area on the Qualla Boundary in Cherokee, NC. Caught this on a clear spring morning with a long exposure to smooth out the cascades. The fallen logs and exposed roots in the foreground give a sense of how wild this spot still feels, even with the trail right there.

Soco Falls — Twin Waterfalls on the Cherokee Reservation, North Carolina

Soco Falls drops in two parallel cascades just off the Blue Ridge Parkway near Cherokee, North Carolina. This one's easy to miss — a small pulloff on US-19 with a short trail down to the overlook. Shot with a slow shutter to smooth out the water against the mossy rock face. Late morning light filtering through the rhododendron canopy gives it that lush green glow.
