No need to bathe the newborn instantly. The layer they are born with on the exterior of their skin is protective! Reposted from Maternativas Educación Perinatal https://bit.ly/maternativasmx and translated:

This white substance that people want to clean up right away is vernix and it begins to form on the skin of your baby in utero around 20 weeks of pregnancy.

🤔 But what is this substance for?

🔹Acts as an antibacterial agent to protect your baby inside and outside the womb. A protective cover when crossing the birth canal: allows your baby to pick up good bacteria and allows bad bacteria not to grow too much.
🔹Acts as an insulator, maintaining your baby's body temperature. Babies who are washed immediately have a significantly higher rate of heat loss.
🔹 Acts as a lubricant and reduces friction during childbirth.
🔹Smell mom and help keep your baby calm after birth.
🔹Your baby swallows vernix in the womb. The same proteins found in the vernix are the same as breast milk. This helps the baby's digestive tract be ready for breastfeeding.
🔹 Keeps baby's skin soft and hydrated.

Many hospital system's policies are outdated, but still being practiced. We were taught that vernix was a danger to germs and that's why in some hospitals health staff clean the baby at birth. But you can ask the staff to reduce friction on your baby to preserve the vernix on their skin! When baby has their first skin-to-skin contact with you, this is the perfect time to feel it and not rub it.

2. Know when to put my camera down

Once the moment is gone, it’s gone, so document this beautiful chapter of your life 💕
It is 100% worth the investment!

FAQ:

1. When do you go on call?
Typically, I go on call at 38 weeks unless you have a history of going into labor before then.

2. Do you take payment plans?
Yes!
I also offer custom birth registries, so you can share with friends and family.

3. How many births do you take a month?
Comfortably 1-2, but in some cases 3

4. How many images are included?
I have 4 collections to choose from with the amount starting at 75 images. The collections increase with my images and by adding video.

5. Do I get the images or do I have to order prints?
You get the high resolution digital files, so you can print where you’d like. I can also order prints as well, but it is not required.

6. Do I have to have a home birth?
Nope! I often share home births, because the majority of births I attend are home births, but I also go to birth centers and the hospital.

7. How do I book with you?
Send me a message! We can do a phone consultation and/ or meet in-person. You’ll put a deposit down to hold your estimated due date on my calender with the remaining balance due before I go on call.
