KShields Photography

KShields Photography I’m a long time resident of Poulsbo, Washington who has been behind a camera traveling the world for decades. Thanks for taking the time to visit here.

I’ve raised a family, retired from two careers and now spend my time doing what I loved most - photography. A camera has led me to every continent, guided me to friendships that have lasted a lifetime, and become a true passion. One of my many goals is to find new and interesting ways to present an everyday scene as something intriguing and special. My compositions don’t have a common theme or jum

p out to be identified as a “K. Shields.” I enjoy experimenting with different styles and processing techniques as I learn them on my journey – a journey that will continue as long as I can lift up the tools of my trade and figure out the latest technology. If you’d like a print, have a question, or just want to share a story or memory that came to you while looking, drop me a line at [email protected]. I’d like to hear from you.

It was really windy the morning I took this image. A long exposure softened the water and highlighted the pilings. This was taken from a path along a finger pier next to the cannery hotel.

The Astoria-Megler bridge is the longest continuous truss bridge in the nation. It stretches 4.1 miles across the Columbia River from Astoria, OR to Point Ellice, WA. On the second Sunday in October, the bridge is briefly closed for the Great Columbia Crossing 10K run/walk. Astoria’s pilings along the shoreline of the river are historical remnants of the 19th and 20th-century salmon canneries, fish traps and docks. KShields Photography

I picked a gorgeous couple of days to spend at Mt Rainier National Park. The drive down Stevens Canyon Road that connects the east and west sides of the park was beautiful.

Update! The last of the cards have been sold. Many thanks to those who purchased them! The pop-up fund raiser brought in over $2,000.00 for the non-profit Poulsbo Historical Society.

Are you a recycle artist Thomas Dambo giant troll hunter? If you’re in the Poulsbo area for this weekend’s Liberty Bay Festival, stop in the Maritime Museum Gift Shop on picturesque Front Street, grab a map and head out on a summer quest to see them all. The artist authorized me to donate packs of notecards for a pop-up fund raiser that are available there too.

I enjoy taking images of the Washington State Ferries (WSF) and have a lot of them. WSF celebrates its 75th birthday on June 1st, this year (2026)! The state took over ferry operations from the Puget Sound Navigation Company (Black Ball Line) on that date in 1951. Washington State Ferries Here are some of my favorite photos:
