A nor’easter decided to make an appearance at The Briarcliff Manor, and they handled it exactly as you should. Embrace the rain, grab an umbrella, and have some fun with it.

The weather became part of the story, from portraits outside the manor to a few rain-soaked photographs after dark. Inside, their beautiful Persian wedding ceremony featured an exquisite Sofreh Aghd table, rich with tradition and thoughtfully arranged with florals and symbolic details.

There was so much personality throughout the day, from the fashion and colorful flowers to a reception that clearly wasn’t going to let a little storm interfere with the celebration.

A reminder that the best wedding days aren’t necessarily the ones with perfect weather. Sometimes the unexpected makes them even more memorable.

Photography Tip: Rain creates beautiful opportunities for wedding portraits, especially after dark. A clear umbrella keeps the couple visible, while a little off-camera flash brings out the raindrops and reflections on the pavement.

There’s something about an intimate wedding that changes the entire rhythm of the day. Every person is there for a reason. Every conversation carries weight. Everyone is present, and the emotions somehow feel amplified because there’s nowhere else you need to be. This wedding at CALLISTO had that rare sense of closeness, intentional without feeling overly planned and effortlessly elegant in its simplicity. Dinner at one long table, portraits around the farm, family close by, and a day that felt entirely their own. Days like this are why I love photographing weddings.

Photography tip: With intimate weddings, photograph the space around the people as much as the people themselves. Wide compositions, negative space, architecture and landscape give a smaller wedding a sense of place and create an editorial rhythm throughout the gallery.

A little rain at The Briarcliff Manor was never going to change the energy of this wedding. Clear umbrellas came out, the celebration kept moving, and by the time the reception started, any concern about the weather was long forgotten. From the bride’s sculptural gown and cathedral-length veil to the black-tie styling and a dance floor that clearly had its own agenda, the entire day felt polished without taking itself too seriously. Rain included.

Photography tip: Rain can add atmosphere to wedding photographs, especially in black and white. Clear umbrellas keep faces visible while letting the weather become part of the composition.

A waterfront ceremony at Orienta Beach Club, black tie done right, a bride who could move effortlessly between classic portraits and completely unfiltered laughter, and a reception that clearly had no interest in slowing down. By the time the sunglasses and glow sticks appeared, everyone was fully committed. The best wedding galleries have that kind of range, polished when it calls for it, completely unpredictable when the party takes over.

Photography tip: For a wedding with this much energy, change your approach with the pace of the day. Keep the portraits composed and intentional, then move in close with a wide lens and direct flash once the dance floor gets going.

Rockefeller State Park has a way of giving an engagement session scale without making it feel overly styled. Open fields, old trees, wooded paths, and late-summer greens set the scene, then I let the two of them take over. Walking turned into running, portraits turned into laughing, and the landscape became part of the photographs rather than simply the background.

Photography tip: In a landscape this expansive, resist the urge to shoot everything tight. Pull back and let the couple occupy a smaller part of the frame. The scale of the trees and fields gives the gallery a cinematic, editorial feel and makes the closer portraits hit differently.

Villa Venezia knows how to make an entrance. The hydrangeas were in full bloom outside, while inside the floral design completely transformed the ceremony and reception spaces. But what made this wedding so good to photograph was how all of that scale and detail worked around the people rather than competing with them. Black tie against the gardens, portraits framed by walls of hydrangeas, an incredible ceremony setting, and a reception where the energy matched the room.

Photography Tip: When a venue has this much visual detail, vary the perspective. Wide photographs show the scale of the design, while tighter frames keep the people at the center of the story.

A classic diner, wild fields, Main Street, the falls, and the Hudson at sunset. An engagement session in Beacon can shift from small-town Americana to something cinematic within a few blocks.

That variety is what makes Beacon engagement photography so good. You can dress up, walk the city, stop somewhere unexpected, then head toward the river as the light changes. The photographs get to feel like the place instead of a standard engagement session.

Photography tip: Build an engagement session around contrasting locations. Mixing architecture, open landscape, storefronts and waterfront light gives the final gallery more visual rhythm without needing multiple outfits or complicated posing.

Stonehill’ Farmhouse has the kind of Hudson Valley character that photographs exceptionally well. Dark timber, open woods, canvas tents, fire-cooked dinner, and a wedding that feels completely at home in its surroundings.

Ben and Holly brought their own style to it. A brown suit against the black barn. A lace gown that moved beautifully. Their corgi in formalwear. A ceremony in the woods followed by a reception that went from dinner over an open flame to the hora and a very full dance floor.

This is Hudson Valley wedding culture at its best. Personal, unfussy, and built around having a genuinely great time.

Photography tip: At a venue with this much texture, use the setting as part of the story. Wide environmental frames establish the place, while direct flash and close framing give the reception photographs a sharper, more editorial energy

Red Maple Vineyard is one of those Hudson Valley venues I’m always happy to come back to. The landscape, the vineyard, the reception space, it all photographs beautifully without needing much from me.

Then you get a couple like this. Two genuinely kind people who know how to have a good time, and a groom with a huge personality and a megawatt smile that seems to show up in every frame. That makes an already great place even better.

A very good day at one of my favorite Hudson Valley wedding venues.

Black Walnut Farm has earned its place among my favorite Hudson Valley wedding venues. The property gives every part of the day its own visual identity, from the personal interiors and wildflower fields to a woodland ceremony followed by dinner in the candlelit barn.

This wedding used the entire property beautifully. Modern tailoring, a ceremony surrounded by trees, then direct flash and a packed dance floor after dark. Distinctly Black Walnut Farm.

Photography tip: When a venue offers several environments, let the lighting evolve with the day. Natural light gives outdoor portraits an open, dimensional quality, while direct flash brings sharper energy to the reception without losing the atmosphere of the room.
