Some want the belly laughs, movement, and little in-between moments.
Some just want someone else to take over the planning and make the whole thing feel EASY. 😂
And some realize their camera roll is full of their kids…but they’re hardly in any of the photos themselves.

You may have noticed me sharing a little more about Little Moments, Big Feelings lately. 🩵

One of my favorite parts of creating these cards was bringing my two worlds together — photography and education.

Instead of illustrations or stock images, each card uses photographs of real children showing real expressions, giving kids something they can actually observe, talk about and connect with.

Yesterday we took a closer look at FRUSTRATED. 💭

A Closer Look at… FRUSTRATED 💭

“Ugh!”

For young children, frustration can show up in a lot of ways — a scrunched face, crossed arms, a louder voice, tears, giving up, or that familiar “I CAN’T DO IT!”

Before children can manage a big feeling, they first need help recognizing and naming it.

Try looking at this card together and asking:

💬 What do you notice about his face and body?

💬 What do you think might have happened?

💬 What does your body feel like when you’re frustrated?

💬 What could help when you’re feeling this way?

There isn’t one “right” answer. The goal is to get children looking, thinking, talking, and connecting the emotion to their own experiences.

That’s what Little Moments, Big Feelings is all about — giving children the words to understand what they’re feeling, one conversation at a time. 🩵

Real expressions, real feelings — that's always been my favorite thing to capture behind the camera. Now those same photos are part of something new: Little Moments, Big Feelings, an emotion cards deck for kids. First samples just arrived!

Some of you have watched this happen in real time — through camera lenses, in laughing, mid-cry, scrunched-up-face little moments during sessions over the past while.

What you might not know is that those real, unposed expressions became something bigger: Little Moments, Big Feelings, an emotion card deck for kids built entirely on authentic photography — real children, real feelings, no illustrations.
I'm so excited to share that it's officially moving into production. 🎉 Being a photographer and an early childhood educator, I built this because I believe kids deserve to learn from real faces, not cartoons — and now that belief is becoming an actual product.

We'll also be at the Pennsylvania Early Childhood Education Summit this October in State College, PA — so if you're local to early childhood education, come say hi.
