Each week on Facebook, Sony Alpha Female has a specific photographic category and they offer a micro-grant with it . . . This week's subject was Portrait . . . And here is what I submitted.
Imperfect, Resilient, & Real . . .
Stepping in front of my owns lens felt far more vulnerable than standing behind it. As someone who is most at home capturing landscapes, wildlife, and fleeting moments beyond myself, this self-portrait was a quiet act of courage.
Taken beside the tree where I feed the birds, just before sunset, I found myself surrounded by familiar wings and unexpected joy. The birds fluttered in, surprised by my presence, as I stood still in a moment that felt both exposed and freeing.
My face carries its own story—subtle traces of surgery, recovery, time, and life itself. Imperfections that once may have felt defining now simply feel honest. Each feature reflects where I've been, what I've overcome, and the woman I continue to become.
This is me—imperfect, resilient, and real.
And in fully embracing that truth, I find my wings . . .
