I am elated to share with you all the photographs from a recent photo session - capturing the unforgettable moment when my son got down on one knee and proposed to his amazing fiance.

As a photographer, I couldn’t be prouder of the way these images turned out, but as a mom, my heart is bursting with love and joy.

These photographs capture the special bond and love that my son and his fiance share. The excitement, joy, and pure emotion of the moment is something that I will always treasure even though I had to tuck away the mama emotions to be the photographer. It was an unexplainable experience. One that I’ll always treasure as both a photographer and mom!

It’s moments like these that remind me of how truly happy I am to have such wonderful and loving children that continue to thrive through adversity blanketed in love, acceptance, and appreciation. (shorter video on Instagram ❤️)

One of my favorite things about my Lifestyle Photoshoot sessions at a client's home is capturing the unexpected moments that freeze real personality and relationships that evoke AWE, such as this portrait.

Here's James and Andrew again. Their friendship is awe-inspiring, and I'll cherish the opportunity to create this portrait always! Check out their twinsparency captured in this photograph.

Many of my clients agree that this is their favorite as well. Sarah, Mom of James and Andrew, shared, "I wanted family photos taken in the park with all the fall colors behind us. My boys are on the Autism Spectrum. They refuse to leave the house, so we did our photoshoot at home. Our family photos turned out beautiful. Thank you!"

Beyond the pretty portraits, I've got a story to share.
When my daughter Lana was born with Down syndrome, several well-wishers told me that it was good that others could "see" her disability.

Why? Because "they'd be able to see why she doesn't act normal," they said.

As a ruminator, I've spent countless hours of my life since worried about her not looking or acting "normal." And if I'm honest, I also do this for my neurotypical sons.

I'm sure I'm not the only parent that worries about their children fitting in, but having friends that remind me to live and let live helps me to be a better parent.

Sarah is that friend to me!

We met when Andrew, James, and my son Dez were in kindergarten. Instantly I admired Sarah and the boys for living spontaneously with a sense of freedom that was unmatched.
Beyond being incredibly inventive, intelligent, funny, and handsome, these twins experience autism.

Sarah fosters their curiosity, independence, and friendship by encouraging them to live life to the fullest precisely as they are. To explore the colors, color outside the box–beyond the borders and off the paper when needed.

Watching them interact and experience life together fills me with joy and admiration. I especially admire the twins-parency they share.

For those lucky enough to experience life with them, I hope you'll color and allow yourself to live unapologetically freely! Because with them and from their perspective, the world's a more colorful and better place! What a gift!

I must say, having shoots filled with meaning, such as this Senior Portrait session, is what leads me to pick up the camera time after time.

As we celebrate Down syndrome appreciation month, I want to speak to the young moms and dads of children with Down syndrome and other unique lives and introduce you to Class of 2022 Senior Marisa 🎓 and my assistant and daughter Lana. ✨

Beyond beautiful, Marisa is friendly, engaging, intelligent, and loves to dance. The love she has for her mom is unmistakable, and she doesn't try to hide it.

To photograph Marisa with Lana assisting was a true joy, and I'll remember this shoot forever. A dream come true.

I started my business inspired by the not-so-heartwarming comments limiting Lana's potential or the "she's beautiful for someone with Down syndrome" statements.

She's beautiful. Enough said!

I wanted to create a career for Lana. Having Lana assist me in business is my why! Yes, I created my business to employ my 16-year-old daughter when she was not even two years old.

I can go into more details on a blog post when I launch our new site, but until then, new parents of children with unique lives, don't let the unintentionally hurtful things people say weigh you down. Instead, let that sting you feel with those painful words help inspire you and your vision for your child!

Because what I have learned sixteen years into this journey is that unconditional love and intention are woven tightly into that extra chromosome and can lead the way to your why.

Congratulations to Marisa! Senior 2022! I'm excited to see how you continue to make the world a better place! I hope you enjoy this school year as you complete your high school experience.

I've got a life hack coming your way! 🙌🏼

Ready for it? Just like our phones and computers need to be turned off and updated every once in a while, so do WE! That's right, sometimes the best way to stay fresh is by unplugging!

I've taken my own advice by stepping away from most of social media for a good bit while working one-on-one with clients that have come my way by word of mouth, supervising three kids with online school, addressing health issues put off, etc. Best of all, I've been on many adventures through Oregon with my family. 💗 It's been just what the doctor ordered, but I'm excited to be easing back.
