Someone pinch me! 🄹 We truly live in one of the most amazingly unique places here in the Pacific Northwest.

I absolutely love that we have locations like this where, in a single photoshoot, I can photograph a dog in a gorgeous old-growth coastal forest and on an incredible beach.  never get tired of how incredible and diverse the landscapes are here! 🌲🌊

Sulley and his mom traveled all the way here from Tennessee for vacation, and I’m truly humbled that they chose to spend part of their trip having a photoshoot with me. It never ceases to amaze me how fortunate I am to be able to do what I love for a living—and even more so, to have such wonderful clients who trust me to capture meaningful memories of them and their furry companions.

I never wi to take any of this for granted. ā¤ļøšŸ¾

A little birdie told me it’s National Dog Day! šŸ¾ā¤ļø Maybe one day I’ll actually mark it on my calendar, but honestly, every day is National Dog Day to me.

In honor of today, I’m sharing a recent session with the truly amazing Finn, a very special old pup who heartbreakingly passed away not long after our shoot.
After Finn’s mom let me know that his health was declining, I made sure we arranged his session as quickly as possible. We chose a location that was meaningful to them and wouldn’t require too much walking given Finn’s mobility challenges. It was a place they had visited together many times over the years, which made it even more special.

It was a beautiful morning, and Finn was such a trooper throughout the entire session. ā¤ļø

I feel incredibly blessed to be able to create photographs that preserve these moments—the little pieces of time that capture the incredible bond between dogs and their humans. These are the sessions that remind me just how meaningful this work truly is.

Big hugs to all the dogs and dog parents out there today. Give your pups an extra squeeze from me! šŸ¶ā¤ļø

On almost every photo session, planning is essential. I like to have some structure going into a shoot—knowing the location, where the best shots might be, where the sun will be at certain times, what the weather is expected to do, and having a good idea of the dog’s personality and how they might behave. All of that helps me create the images my clients are hoping for while still leaving room for my own creative process.

But as much as you plan, things don’t always go according to plan. The weather can change, a dog can be more distracted than expected, the light can behave differently, or any number of unexpected variables can come into play. That’s where being able to adapt becomes so important.

I feel like I’ve become really good at adapting to whatever a shoot throws at me simply because I’ve experienced so many different scenarios over the years. Sometimes the unexpected moments end up being some of the best ones.

With Sully’s session, nothing went wrong at all, but the lighting gave me an unexpected little treat. I hadn’t planned on capturing these particular images, but when I saw the way the sunlight was filtering through the trees and lighting Sully, I knew I wanted to play around with it a bit.

I absolutely love how they turned out. Sometimes you just have to recognize a little bit of magic when it shows up. ✨🐾

I’m so grateful for adventurous clients! We took the long trek to this gorgeous waterfall last week, which included a little rope-climbing adventure down a steep hillside. It honestly wasn’t as scary or dangerous as it sounds—it just took a bit of effort, a willingness to get our hands dirty, and a sense of adventure. šŸ˜‚

I’ve only photographed here a handful of times, and every single time I’m blown away by just how magical this location is. And to top it all off, I had Luke, an amazing and experienced model dog, in front of my lens.

This was our 5th year in a row photographing together, and I have to say… this one might just top them all. ā¤ļø

These photos are a powerful reminder to never take the places we love for granted.

I feel incredibly grateful that I was able to photograph Ruby on Mount Hood just over a week ago, before everything changed so quickly. The area where these images were taken is now under threat from the Grasshopper Fire, along with so many other breathtaking places that hold a special place in my heart—and in the hearts of countless others.
Oregon’s incredible landscapes are part of what makes this state so extraordinary. They offer peace, adventure, and a chance to step away from the stress of everyday life. They are home to an incredible diversity of wildlife and cherished memories for so many people.

It’s truly heartbreaking to see these beautiful places threatened and, in many cases, forever changed by wildfires year after year.

My thoughts are with everyone affected, and I’m deeply grateful for the firefighters and first responders working tirelessly to protect Mount Hood and the surrounding communities. I’m hoping for their safety and that the fire can be brought under control soon. ā¤ļø

She said YES!

Last year, I was contacted to do my first ever proposal/dog shot. Ruby’s human dad wanted to plan a surprise proposal during a dog shoot.

The mission was to set up a perfectly normal session with Ruby and her two pawrents… while secretly orchestrating a once-in-a-lifetime moment. It meant scouting the ideal location on the coast, dialing in the perfect setup, and timing everything just right. Equal parts planning, creativity, and a little bit of stealth.

After a lot of behind-the-scenes work, everything came together exactly as we hoped. And in the middle of it all—Ruby’s human mom said YES! šŸ¾šŸ’

And Ruby couldn’t be happier! The proof is unquestionable, just check out that last photo! šŸ˜‚ā¤ļø
