Happy anniversary to B&P. This was a very special wedding not only because I was in great company and the setting was absolutely breathtaking, but because it was very sentimental in more ways than one.

I’ve photographed multiple weddings for this family over the years, including a couple family sessions, both in Maine and California. I’ve seen this family grow over time, so to be a part of this west coast celebration was a true honor.

During the ceremony, the priest (a close family friend of theirs) spoke about the Palisades fires, which at the time, had only occurred a couples months prior. Many of the guests and bride’s family members lost their homes in the fire and the priest lost his church. He spoke of community, kindness, and what matters most in life in times of both celebration and hardship. I usually get a little teary during ceremonies, but during this one I could feel a guttural heartache for everyone affected and there wasn’t a dry eye in the audience. The priest continued to speak of love, compassion, community, and selflessness.

I want to thank the Bartholomew family for showing me so much kindness over the years and for trusting me to document life’s biggest events. I hope this can serve as a reminder to celebrate love, lead with compassion, and to choose faith over fear any chance you get.
