I love to photograph my kids exploring the world, and looking at what they see. I often will accomplish this with ‘faceless’ images but I feel like they really capture the scene and mood…particularly as it’s what I often see as their mother. We had big visions for the Brooklyn bridge that were thwarted by weather, but we did still enjoy looking at it and had a delicious ice cream as well. We’re a house divided on our preference between the color or the black and white edits of these images. I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!!

Did you know that kids can visit the Moma for free? We had a very rainy day and took that opportunity to get out of the rain - particularly since they had no admission fee. Taking photos in a museum is always a challenge that I like to approach, and see if there’s a way to capture the sense or feeling of the place, while making a unique image. This is a set of three image where I used a slow shutter speed - one to blur my daughter while walking, one trying to blur some of the people from a unique vantage point, and another where I created abstract art from an installation. This colorful wall display was right in the lobby and really fun to experiment with.

One of my favorite things to look for when traveling are reflections. Wether it’s in glass, water, or sunglasses….they add a unique element to your photos. Here are a few of my favorite reflection images from our NYC trip. Do you look for reflections when taking your travel photos? (And, I had a few more to share that did not receive teen posting consent…oh well…)

One goal I had for this trip was to take some creative images with intentional camera movement. I started doing so with the Empire State Building. We had a small view out our tiny hotel window, and then also had a really fun evening at Top Of The Rock where I also experimented with different shutter speeds, and the effect it had on the images. Do you have a favorite?

One of my favorite things to do with my girls is to travel, and spend that time creating unique and fun photos with them. You may think that they would be tired of me photographing them - but that’s actually not the case. They get really motivated to plan their outfits, and participate in documenting our trip not just with selfies, but with photos that we create together.

This June we went to NYC (luckily before the crazy heat waves and wildfire smoke) and I have the photos to prove the thousands of steps we took each day.

I’m hoping to share not just the photos, but talk a little bit about my inspiration, what made me stop, light, composition, creative photography techniques, moment, and story…and I’m happy to answer questions about my gear, settings, etc. if you have them.

And, one of our favorite activities is visiting photo booths together - we love planning the moments, taking the photos, and then also creating unique art with the photo strips. So, I’ll use this digital photo booth strip to start off this NYC series.

One of the biggest reasons photographers choose mentorship?

Because growth feels so much easier when you’re not doing it alone. 💛

There’s something powerful about having someone look at your work and say:
✨ here’s what’s working
✨ here’s what could be stronger
✨ here’s how to get where you want to go

Not in a way that tears you down—but in a way that builds your confidence.

That’s always my goal in mentorship.

Honest feedback.
Encouragement.
Clear direction.
A space to refine your portfolio, strengthen your skills, and stay inspired.

As one of my mentorship students shared:

“Working one-on-one with Rebecca was a GAME-CHANGER for my photography…”

And honestly? That’s exactly what mentorship should feel like.

Not overwhelming. Not discouraging.
Just real support that helps you grow. Business coaching and mentorships are what helped me to move forward quickly in my business, and I believe they are invaluable experiences.

If you’re feeling stuck, unsure of your next step, or ready to refine your work, mentorship might be the thing that changes everything. 📸✨

Betting on yourself is rarely comfortable. 💛

Starting my photography business was one of the biggest leaps I ever took. And then, after divorce, I had to do it again in an entirely new way.

Both seasons were full of uncertainty.
Both required resilience.
Both asked me to trust myself before I had proof it would all work out.

And that’s the thing about building a creative business:
There will always be moments where the path feels unclear.

Moments where you have to choose yourself.
Your vision.
Your creativity.
Your future.

Over time, I’ve learned that building a sustainable business isn’t just about making beautiful images.

It’s about:
✨ creating stability
✨ making wise financial decisions
✨ diversifying your income
✨ adapting through life changes
✨ designing work that supports your actual life

Sometimes the hardest seasons teach us how strong, capable, and creative we really are.

If you’re standing at a crossroads right now, wondering whether you can do the hard thing:

You can.
And sometimes betting on yourself is the very thing that changes everything. 📸✨ And, I'm here to chat if you need a listening ear and/or some encouragement!

Photographers: are your model calls actually helping you grow your business… or just giving away free photos? 👀

A strategic model call can do so much more than fill your portfolio.

It can:
✨ refresh your brand
✨ attract your dream clients
✨ create stunning, on-brand images
✨ build momentum in your marketing
✨ and yes… even make you money

That’s exactly why I created Profitable Model Calls Made Easy.

Inside this course, I teach my proven system to help you confidently plan and run a model call from setup to success—in just one weekend.

No more guessing.
No more chaotic planning.
No more model calls that lead nowhere.

Just a clear, repeatable process to create the work you love and build the business you want. 💛📸

If you’re ready to build your portfolio with intention and start attracting the right clients, this course is for you.

One of the biggest misconceptions photographers have?

That creativity is something you either “have” or you don’t.

But creativity is also a skill set.
A way of observing.
A way of arranging light, color, emotion, and composition intentionally.

That’s exactly why I created Composition & Color.

This course is for photographers who:
📷 feel inconsistent in their work
📷 freeze up in new locations
📷 rely heavily on the rule of thirds
📷 want a more recognizable style
📷 know their images could feel stronger but aren’t sure why

Through bite-sized lessons, behind-the-scenes demos, and editing walkthroughs, I’ll help you sharpen your eye and start creating images that feel more compelling, confident, and uniquely yours. 💛

You do not have to build your business exactly the way someone else did.

Some photographers thrive focusing on one thing forever.
Others build businesses with multiple creative offers:
📸 family photography
📸 school portraits
📸 education
📸 camps
📸 mentoring
📸 seasonal projects

There is no “right” way.

One of the biggest mindset shifts in my own business was realizing I could build something that supported BOTH my creativity and my actual life.

And honestly? Having multiple income streams can create more stability, more flexibility, and more room to evolve creatively over time.

Your business is allowed to grow alongside you. 💛
