Sparks Lake — Central Oregon
At sunset, Sparks Lake becomes a spectacular reflection of Oregon’s Cascade Range, with the jagged peaks of South Sister and Broken Top rising dramatically beyond the water. As the last light of day fades across the mountains, the sky takes on soft shades of pink, gold, and lavender, mirrored across the still surface of the lake. Surrounded by volcanic rock, forests, and the rugged Three Sisters Wilderness, this iconic Central Oregon landscape captures the quiet, expansive beauty of the Cascades and the magic of a high-desert evening.

Teton Mountain Range — Schwabacher Landing, Wyoming
Just after sunrise at Schwabacher Landing, the first light of day begins to illuminate the rugged peaks of Wyoming’s Teton Range, while the still waters of a nearby beaver pond create a nearly perfect reflection. The warm morning light gently touches the mountain faces and surrounding forest, contrasting beautifully with the cool blues of the early morning sky. Known for its iconic views of the Tetons, Schwabacher Landing offers a peaceful glimpse of the landscape awakening—where mountains, water, wildlife, and light come together in one of the most photographed scenes in Grand Teton National Park.

Northern Lights & Perseid Meteor Shower — Central Oregon
On a rare summer night in Central Oregon, the sky came alive with two spectacular celestial events—the Northern Lights and the Perseid meteor shower. Brilliant shades of magenta, violet, and green stretched across the night sky, illuminating the landscape beneath a field of stars while meteors streaked overhead. The Perseids are one of the year’s most anticipated meteor showers, and when conditions align with an active aurora, the result can be an unforgettable display of color and light. This photograph captures one of those extraordinary nights when the darkness of the Oregon high desert became a canvas for the wonders of the night sky.

Painted Hills — Central Oregon
Part of Oregon’s John Day Fossil Beds, the Painted Hills are a stunning landscape shaped by millions of years of geological history. Waves of red, gold, yellow, and ochre sweep across the hills, with each band of color revealing a different chapter of the ancient environment preserved beneath the surface. Especially beautiful in the soft light of early morning or late afternoon, the Painted Hills seem almost painted by hand—a remarkable reminder of the immense forces of time, weather, and nature that have shaped the Oregon landscape.

Ruby Beach Sunset — Olympic Peninsula, Washington
As the sun sets over Ruby Beach on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, the rugged Pacific coastline takes on an almost otherworldly character. Towering sea stacks rise from the surf while waves roll across the dark, rocky shoreline, creating a dramatic contrast against the warm colors of the fading sky. Named for the ruby-like crystals sometimes found among its sands, Ruby Beach is a beautiful example of the wild, untamed character of Washington’s coast—a place where forests, ocean, and towering rock formations come together to create an unforgettable Pacific Northwest sunset.

Banyan Tree — Big Island, Hawaii
Stepping inside a great banyan tree feels almost like entering another world. On Hawaii’s Big Island, these remarkable trees create their own living architecture, with massive branches and twisting aerial roots intertwining to form a natural canopy overhead. Each root reaches toward the earth, creating new trunks and adding to the tree’s ever-expanding presence. This photograph captures the intricate beauty within that living maze—a quiet reminder of Hawaii’s lush tropical landscape, where nature grows in unexpected and extraordinary ways.

Lone Cypress — Pebble Beach, California
Perched dramatically along the rugged Monterey coastline, the Lone Cypress has stood as one of California’s most iconic landmarks for more than 250 years. Growing from a granite outcropping above the Pacific Ocean, this solitary Monterey cypress has become a symbol of strength, resilience, and the timeless beauty of the California coast. Surrounded by crashing waves, windswept trees, and sweeping ocean views, the Lone Cypress offers a breathtaking reminder that even a single tree can become an enduring part of a landscape’s story.

Happy Wildlife Wednesday!

Here is a large elephant seal blowing bubbles in the water. They do this for a few reasons... Buoyancy control, communication or play. I am not sure what the purpose was for this guy since he was the only one in this area of water, but it weas fun to watch. He would do it every so often and was able to catch it multiple times with photos and video!
