I spent a beautiful evening on a return visit to this meadow I discovered last year. The flowers in the foreground are sulfur buckwheat - I had so much fun using my Seek app to identify all the plants in the area!
As a soundtrack to the evening, we heard the wind in the wings of the Nighthawk. At the time, I didn’t know what caused that sound, and strange noises in the dark are often scary. I was glad to find out later that it was a bird.

Every time I hike alongside a river or stream, the movement of the water over rocks catches my eye. I don’t always stop to make images (it depends on who I’m with), but I love it when I’m with a kindred spirit and we both want to stop!

This image was made just a few hours after my last post, and at the same location. I discovered that this spot is directly under the flight path of all westbound flights into Portland! Thankfully, the air traffic tapered off after 11pm, just in time for the Milky Way alignment with Mount Hood that I was aiming for.
I was testing two 35mm lenses (Nikon Z 1.8 or Sigma Art 1.4) to see which one I wanted to buy for tracked Milky Way images. Honestly, neither of them had the round stars I was hoping for in the corners, but I decided the Nikon was a better fit for my processing workflow (since I can minimize the distortion in the corners a bit).

From Larch Mountain in Mount Hood National Forest, you can see so many of the Cascades volcanoes! I especially love the layers in the landscape when looking north toward Mount Rainier, as shown here. The soft colors of sunset enhanced the view.

- Comet at Half Moon Bay (2024) -
I had hoped to photograph comet c/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS), but didn’t have any luck near home due to clouds. Thankfully, it was still visible during my trip to the Bay Area in October! I had always wanted to photograph the Milky Way at this beach, but it never worked out while I lived in the area. This outing more than made up for that!

Spring in Oregon is so beautiful! I wish it lasted longer, but then it wouldn’t feel so special. The heat of summer is when I hibernate indoors in air conditioning, except for some night sky photo outings.
I plan to add this image to my online print shop, but first I need a title. Any ideas?

A couple of months ago, I started working with my dog in hopes that he can learn to be a good companion on photo outings. This was the first time he came out with me. I brought a minimal photography kit along with my tripod, and I made sure to have no expectations of successful photography! My pup proved to be a bit afraid of the water, so I couldn’t get any closer to the falls than this. But I think it worked out okay. Apparently I took no behind-the-scenes pics of him, so you can’t see him being a good boy despite his fear! And we’re working on that (treats are involved).

During my stay in Hood River, I discovered a hike in the first few days that had the most amazing views. I think I went back there five times in total! During this outing, the orchards were getting toward the end of their bloom. Fun fact: the Airbnb I stayed in is visible in this image! I’ll be adding this image to my online print shop (link in bio) as soon as I think of a title. Suggestions welcome!

I spent a little time in Hood River recently. The goal was to recover from long-term stress and allow my nervous system to get out of fight or flight. This view is on the property where I stayed in an Airbnb. Having this view out the window all day every day sure contributed to my healing!

The prettiest light I experienced in Arizona was the first night as a storm was ending. I didn’t know my way around yet, so I framed up this image from the side of the road! These conditions in this beautiful desert took my breath away.
The past few weeks, I’ve been out making images more often than usual, leaving less time for processing. Hope to dedicate some time to editing my new spring images soon!
