From an evening earlier this month that was both magical and frustrating. The magical: there wasn’t enough bioluminescence to show up in the waves, but there was enough to make our footsteps sparkle in the wet sand near tide pools. ✨ I’d never experienced that before - it was amazing! And the frustrating: a couple of people were hanging out at the base of the rock and shining flashlights all over the place for a very long time! Multiple foreground images were ruined. Thankfully, they did leave eventually, and I stayed later than planned (on a weeknight) to get this and a couple other images. Overall, a great outing!

It’s hard to convey in words how much it delights me to stand on the rock shelf in this river to create images. I love the perspective! There are three waterfalls along this stretch of river, and I had a wonderful weekend a few weeks ago camping in the area and photographing all three of them. Thanks for joining me, Becky Kuperstein Photography !
This image is from the first evening. We had just enough time to set up camp and eat dinner before heading here to enjoy the beautiful light. Every image looked amazing on the back of my camera - we stayed until it was too dark to focus.

The soft light after the sun went below the trees was perfect for photographing this beautiful spot. I wish I could have stayed longer, but after this image I rushed up the trail to capture my blue hour foreground for a Milky Way image from above the falls. It was a lovely evening with talented friends Maricel Quesada Jara and Michelle Jacquemet .

While I was in this area last month, I didn’t visit this beautiful spot because I knew I had unprocessed images from a year ago. While that hasn’t stopped me from returning to Death Valley many times despite having thousands of images from past trips, somehow it made a difference for this location! Anyway, here’s an image from June 2025. I photographed this in the mid-afternoon, a time I usually avoid due to harsh light, thanks to a lucky few minutes when the sun went behind a cloud.

New work from last Friday! Click or tap to see the full image. I hiked up here hopeful that I’d get a Milky Way image despite the clouds. It did end up peeking through a gap in the clouds, but it turned out that the sunset was absolutely stunning, and I liked this even more! I first photographed this scene handheld, but returned with my tripod for a proper focus stack to do it justice. Glad I did.
