Long story with intention to be short but won’t be..
In September I posted about taking a few months off from sessions. The purpose was to care for our son. It became much more than that though.
His eczema had been an on and off issue since he was a few months old. In April ‘22, things changed. His sleep was disturbed. He would wake from his naps sweaty and upset. Throw a tantrum that would last for an hour plus. He was untouchable most of the time. We couldn’t figure it out. We just knew something was going on. His skin would go from dry and flakey, to head to toe hives. We went through the protocol of specialists. When I was told with a shrug that some kids just get chronic hives is when I started listening to my mom gut.
Ames had been prescribed low potency topical steroids from a young age. They helped manage things for a bit. When he was 18 months we started to notice they just weren’t doing the trick. Then came stronger steroids, on repeat. Illness after illness followed. URI after URI. Then finally an asthma diagnosis. His immune system was just shot.
I’m starting to realize really how long this caption could be…

After finding his allergens, we did a complete lifestyle and diet change. He no longer got hives. We had also stopped the topicals because they weren’t even doing anything. At this point he seemed to be a bit happier but definitely not 100%. Another URI started and after more rounds of oral steroids (we would never deny him getting those) in November things got extremely worse. Ames would ooze plasma from head to toe. We had to shave his head because his hair was a matted mess. His pajamas would stick to him and we would have to soak him first (mind you he couldn’t tolerate water) Our house was covered in the skin he would shed. Cracks, raw skin, infections. It went in cycles of this for what seemed like forever. On top of that, Ames didn’t sleep longer than 10 minutes at a time. And he’d be awake most nights from 10pm-4am. Day to day life truly felt impossible.
