I suspect I’ve made this reference before, but every time I get film back from it feels like that scene from Billy Madison when Adam Sandler is beyond wasted and remembers it’s the day of week when his n**e magazines arrive in the mail. He proclaims, “it’s nudie magazine day!!”

In this case it’s more like, “it’s film scan from the Darkroom day!!” And it’s easily my favorite day of the week when I get that text alert.

Here, we have a mix of opticolor 200 and Hitchcock’s re-spooled XX B&W (from ) both shot with a Voigtländer Bessa R with either a 35mm (Voigtländer’s color slopes) or 50mm (Jupiter 8) lens, and Lomography’s 800 shot via the Sprocket Rocket.

Ok, last one…for now…until I find another template that fits this same motif because I’ve got a few other cameras to feature and just sent my first test roll on a newly acquired Nikon F3…which is to say, I just have a decent stockpile of content to put together.
This time we’re featuring the Voigtländer Bessa R, a great and relatively modern rangefinder that immediately just felt right when paired with a Soviet era lens. This camera has been mostly designated to street walks, but has made some random appearances during portrait sessions.
Having owned, or at least had the privilege of using different cameras has been an interesting component of the photography journey.

Ok. Part Deux. Featuring a Fujifilm GS645S, another medium format camera that is unique in its frame orientation being naturally in portrait. This lightweight camera has quickly become my favorite medium format camera to travel with, hence the inclusion of more travel related photos. Enjoy!

In my next series of lazy reels I’ve decided to feature work done with specific film cameras that I have acquired along my journey.
To kick us off, we begin with the first camera I purchased as a baby step into medium format film. The Yashica D TLR.

The people have voted, and portraits overwhelmingly won by a landslide!

With spring slowly emerging, the warm sunshine of summer is just around the corner, and so I figured I’d reshare a mix of film and digital work from this shoot with Becca a couple years ago. We somehow tapped into a sort of tropical island vibe unintentionally, but we were in the backwoods of PA, go figure.
Also, I realized I didn’t really specify which portrait shoot I’d be posting from and it felt discordant to post from another shoot since Becca’s was the teaser in the stories/poll.

Pues, así es la vida. Hasta la próxima mis queridos amigos!

About a month ago, at the end of January, I posted a sort of side-by-side comparison of two of Lomography’s films to illustrate how their Lomochrome Turquoise shifts colors.
With the introduction of Harman’s Switch Azure, I’ll eventually be circling back to compare the two different brands (once I’ve shot a roll of the Harman).
Today, however, I’m going to compare these same two film brands with their respective red films.
I shot with a few years ago (circa 2023) using the only redscale available at the time, Lomography’s Redscale. We created a beautiful sort of dark mythical vibe that played well with the redscale.
Fast forward a couple years and Harman introduces their version, and I was subsequently lucky enough to work with . We created a more intimate, artsy vibe that also really played well with the redscale motif.
Between the two, I lean a little more towards Harman’s version, but I don’t know that I could confidently articulate a reason as to why. What do y’all think?

Doing things backwards this year and posting retrospectives at the beginning of the year.
Honestly, I’m just doing my best, like all of you, to find some semblance of normalcy amidst the vortices of news coverage and death spiral of the algorithm that seems only to further deepen ever widening fisures amongst us.
The political climate, and subsequent social climate is anything but happy-go-lucky, and finding happiness in the small ways we can feels dissonant and disingenuous, and yet altogether simultaneously necessary.

Each month IG provides a readymade analytics report showing how things are performing. Looking into those Insights on this app, and apparently Mondays between 12-3 are a good time to post.
I’ve long since given up on giving in to the algorithm, so I’m not sure to what end I’m experimenting with this…
…but it is indeed within those projected parameters of when’s best to post per the last report, so I guess I’m just having fun loosely experimenting with the aforementioned analytics to see how much of it all is actually true. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Here’s a look back between 2019-2022

As a millennial, it took an unhealthy amount of restraint to NOT use TLC’s Red Light Special song with this post. I’ve used this light a handful of times, and have even used red color film, but have yet to match it with the classic TLC hit from the early 90s.

Also, you’re welcome if that song is in your head now. Sorry, not sorry 😝
