“This Year’s Love” by David Gray

I was reminded of this song today when I saw a user on Ultimate Guitar post a “shot” of it, so I had to give it a quick try of my own.

I didn’t even notice until I was editing the video that I had captured my notification sound in the background. (I got very confused trying to figure out why I wasn’t seeing a message pop up…)

I also hit a big clunker note right at the end, but my analytics tell me that even if you somehow managed to stumble onto this video, you probably won’t see that part anyway…

Oo-de-lally (from Disney’s Robin Hood) by Roger Miller

My wife recently bought me this shirt from Viking Goods, and she said that meant I would need to try this song. It actually seems like maybe there should be a legal requirement for anyone who owns a shirt with a giant chicken playing the guitar to try this song…

My daughter used to love this movie when she was little, I guess I’ll just have to see if she still likes this song when I’m the one singing it.

Today (March 18) marks the 17th anniversary of my mom’s passing from early onset Alzheimer's and, as I do each year, I have registered “Team Stephanie Harris” and signed up for the Kalamazoo Walk to End Alzheimer's to commemorate that anniversary. I have again set an ambitious goal for myself as I am hoping to find a way to reach $2500 individually this year and hit "Elite Grand Champion" status for the first time.

“Whiskey, You’re the Devil” as heard from The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem

This was another fun one I learned last year when I was preparing to play for a St. Patrick’s Day party.

As I said in another short video I posted today, maybe I should get in touch with one of the local Irish pubs to see if they need someone else to play some of these songs more than just one day a year.

O’Duffy’s? McGonigles? Do you need any more music…?

“Irish Pub Song” by The High Kings

I had to try a short clip of this one again this year because it was my daughter’s favorite when I learned an hour’s worth of Irish music to play for the St. Patrick’s Day party at one of the local nursing homes last year.

Maybe I should try to get in touch with one of the local Irish pubs to see if they need someone else to play some of these songs more than just one day a year.

“All I Want” by

I have been a Toad fan for a long time, but I haven’t worked on any of their songs in quite a while, so I was happy to pull my old song book off the shelf when one of my students revealed at last week’s lesson that he was also a fan and wanted to work on a couple of their songs.

This is one that I tried to work on a long time ago (before I was ready to attempt playing and singing it at the same time) so I am having fun trying to figure it out in spite of the fact that Glen’s voice is really a little too high for me (even at the full step down from the original key they do this one in now).

“I’ll Be Your Hallelujah” by

This is another song from Stu’s 2024 “Solitude” project and he just released the official version of this one yesterday as he is building up to the full album release in June.

It is another beautiful song, and it is a love song, so I had to give it a quick try before Valentine’s Day is through…

This song is primarily a piano piece, but I wanted to try capture the feeling of it on guitar and tuned down 2 full steps to make it happen.

I hope you will enjoy my 1-minute attempt and then go listen to Stu’s official version wherever you like to stream things.

Just a little snippet of a love song as we approach Valentine’s Day.

“Shape of Love” is from Passenger’s album, Flight of the Crow.

I haven’t listened to this album as much as I should, but I was reminded of this one by a user on Ultimate Guitar.

The original album version of this song was with Boy & Bear, and had some fun banjo picking. I tried to get some of that feeling by picking instead of strumming it the way Mike usually does when he plays this one solo.

I also did this one a full step down from the original key, which is how Mike played it in his full album live stream back in 2021.

My daughter has been working her way through Stranger Things, so I’ve been hearing this theme from the Neverending Story around the house quite a bit…

The chords are fun on the ukulele, so I had to give it a quick try.

New Year's resolution to learn some music...?
Now is the time to get scheduled for lessons. I am planning to raise my rates in February, but you can still lock in my current rate if we start the conversation now! No startup fees, and 1 lesson included free in your first paid full month.
