Fathers day in Reedsport, Oregon! Awesome contest!

🌲 2026 PRO CARVER SPOTLIGHT 🌲

Please help us welcome Bob King of Edgewood, Washington to the 2026 Oregon Divisional Chainsaw Carving Championship!

Bob has been carving since 1998. Bob and his wife, along with Pat Dwelly started the Oregon Divisional Chainsaw Carving Championship in 2000. They remember the first year of competition, hoping people would come. The people of Reedsport have shown up and supported this show for 26 years!

Bob considers himself somewhat retired now and that means carving what he wants to carve and choosing commissions that interest him. Many times this will include wildlife and Norman Rockwell type scenes.

Bob got into carving by going to fair and seeing carvers. Bob's wife said they couldn't afford a sculpture so he decided to make one himself. Bob learned from every sculpture, and we are glad he's still choosing to carve in Reedsport!

Sam Bowsher is the man!

Our first Carver announcement today goes to a continued podium placer … Sam Bowsher (Brother Sam ) will be retuning to defend his podium spot travelling over from Scotland , and setting his sights on that top prize. Sam is one of the kindest most genuine and authentic guys to be around , he’s not afraid of anything really … just Vicki 😉 He’s always cheering on his friends , asking how anyone’s days going , likes to banter … he thinks he’s funny, we will let him think that.. We look forward to seeing you in June Sam!!!

Chainsaw Carving for the wine and cheese crowd at the Seattle Art Museum with Steve Backus, Pat McVay and Lisa Donze

Steve Backus and Pat McVay will be carving small hammering men tomorrow, Weds March 4 from 12-2pm in from of the Seattle Art Museum in downtown Seattle. This is part of a show called Beyond Mysticism SAM is putting on about wood carving art in the last 200 hundred years. Behind their live carving will be playing a loop of movies about chainsaw carving on the coast of Washington over the last 25 years with the films of Peter Wiant and John Reed .
