Hello everyone! Since you've all been loving the photos from my trip to South Africa, I wanted to leave a little review of the amazing course I took over there.
At the end of June I had the great fortune of getting to participate in the photography course offered by Thula Thula - Exclusive Private Game Reserve! Kim Mcleod Photography, the reserve's resident photographer, is an absolute rockstar. She created the course to be hands on and easy to understand. I had taken photography in high school but as the years go by some little things start escaping my memory. This course was the perfect refresher to get me back up to speed. No advanced photography skills are needed to to do the course as Kim goes over all of the basics and teaches you everything you need to know. The best part was getting to apply the lessons we learned out on the game drives. Our ranger had also taken the course a few times and knew exactly what we were looking for. As an aspiring wildlife photographer, I was taught the correct settings and ways to look at animals such as elephants, white rhinos, zebra, and hippos (and many more) for the perfect photo. Kim even teaches you how to edit them, which is always a plus!
Aside from the amazing lessons, the overall atmosphere was simply phenomenal. Since the course takes place at Thula Thula's Volunteer Academy, you'll also be amongst the volunteers and rangers who are involved in that program. We had spent meals, game drives, and nightly fires together. It quickly felt as though I had been friends with everyone here for years. This is surely an experience I'll never forget and I look forward to my next trip to Thula Thula, which will hopefully be sooner rather than later!
