Moxie!! Junior defending his little space in the world from an incoming adult. Feisty encounters are common in a Least Tern colony with fights over fish and territory. This juvenile had no problem taking command of the situation! 💪 🐦🌊

Purple-throated Woodstar, Colombia. 💜 I have hardly had time to go through my images from last fall and winter but had hummingbirds on my mind after listening to my favorite bird podcast last week so I took a little peek at a few. If you haven’t listened to Okay, But... Birds - I highly recommend it. It’s science-y yet super fun and I always learn so much! Happy Monday all.

Attention to Detail…White-morph Reddish Egret keeping those feathers in perfect shape! I absolutely love watching and photographing birds preen. Many of my favorite images are from this simple yet important act of feather maintenance. Of course I also love some Reddish Egret dancing shots …have a few of those coming up too!

Least Tern lifting off towards the weekend. 💛 It is exhausting to watch these little guys bringing fish after fish to their babies. They work so hard! Sadly they don’t get breaks over the weekend but I hope y’all do!

Back to the beach with the summer sun just as it was coming up this morning. ☀️ So nice to get back out there today! I’ve been parked at my desk this week working on my presentations for modebyflickr! Looking forward to being there and talking all about bird photography and editing. Two of my favorite things!

The end of the summer sunflower season is always a bit sad. 🌈🌻 Photographing the birds that pop in and out looking for food, singing to declare their territory or bringing their young into the sunflower fields is some of my favorite shooting all year. I have loads of images from this season that I still haven’t edited but this was from one of my last days out there. A fading flower and (nervous) Painted Bunting who had stepped into another bird’s territory for a brief moment. Canon USA

A little Indie Rock for your Thursday! 🎶💙🌻I nicknamed this little guy Indie and he was the star of the sunflower field this summer. I loved hearing his sweet song amidst the flowers while I desperately tried to locate which sunflower stage he was performing on. This post is in memory of my longtime friend who tragically and unexpectedly died recently. She had the sweetest giggle, kindest heart and adventurous spirit. A lot to miss. Canon USA
