How to protect your AC during a storm?
Many don’t realize but acts of mother nature are not covered under your warranty and you will be responsible for any repairs needed on the AC after the Hurricane! Claims to the AC manufacturer can and have been denied if claimed directly after a storm!
I will say that many of us like to keep our AC running as long as we can in case the power goes out! If anything is making the power trip before going out fully just turn your unit off! Your capacitor is there to protect the compressor one of the most expensive parts within your system! If the capacitor is taken out the next surge can take out the compressor! Some are strong enough to take out the compressor and more!
If you have rental units that are empty I would go the evening before the storm and turn off the AC. It will not hurt the home to have the AC off until you can get back to check it within a day or so. Unless you have custom cabinets or floors that require acclimation! But honestly if you lose power it’s done for anyway!
I hope this helps someone to not have even more expenses if their AC does make it through the outside elements beyond our control!
